Unable to move upper back pain

Yesterday I had a small ache in my back which was annoying but nothing more. Woke up at 4am unable to move. The pain is excruciating.

its in my upper back, along my spine and particularly right shoulder. I’m in constant pain but when I try to move it’s unbearable. I can’t even go and get painkillers it’s so bad.

im supposed to be working at 6am too. what could this be? Poor posture perhaps. I sit at a laptop. Never knew back pain could be so sore.

Heart attack? Call 111 or get to a&e if you can

CobraChicken · 19/08/2022 04:43

Gallstones attack could also present like this.

TheStarsDontShine · 19/08/2022 04:44

If you can't move you need to call 111. lots of things could present like this but I would want to be seen

MissSmiley · 19/08/2022 04:46

It might just be a muscle spasm but it could be something more serious, it doesn't sound like you'll be going to work, I hope you're on to 111

Cantchooseaname · 19/08/2022 05:02

do you have pins needles/ loss sensation in legs/ arms? Any difficulty going to the toilet? These are massive flags for something spinal going on. My husband had a (benign) tumour pressing on spine- it was worst pain ever.
I hope you get sorted, take it seriously.

Doodledeedum · 19/08/2022 05:08

It sounds too high but could be a kidney stone. Please just go to A&E

Crystaly · 19/08/2022 07:09

Waiting on a call back from 111 but will also call gp at 8. It’s definitely muscle related I’m sure. I’m stuck in the one position. If I move I’m In excruciating pain like burning and electric shock.

I managed to get out of bed and sit upright which has surprisingly helped.

@Crystaly I hope you can get some treatment today, being in pain like that is awful

Crystaly · 19/08/2022 08:35

Thank you.

I tried my strongest painkillers but it hasn’t helped. Managed to get logged into my laptop as it’s possible to sit up without too much trouble.

getting dressed, driving, even eating is difficult. I couldn’t open my mouth without severe back pain this morning. Hope it passes soon

Shingles

finally spoke to a nurse ( no doctor available). She said it sounds muscular. She’s given me a prescription for stronger painkillers and a muscle relaxer
