Saying I dont want to go for a diagnostic test, (isotope bone scan), to see if I have a fracture in the ribs, as treatment plan may very well be the same for a muscle tear for which there is no test.

Ive asked whether I can still have the same treatment plan if I dont do it.

Its a full on all day thing and cant touch my girls till the next day either.

I may have to wait all day to hear from the actual consultant, I get so edgy waiting for things like this.

Stomachs churning , why do I see them like demi gods who have the last say?

how did the mri scan go?
I think it's sensible not to have the isotope scan if it won't change the treatment you have.

Don't be intimidated...you are the customer.

Melsy, no experience.

Good luck

Good on you for questioning it- I didn't have the guts to challenge the ocnsultant face to face (wanted a homebirth, they didn't) so i found a letter was the right tool for me, and I got an agreement for what i wanted, all being well.

Mpst counsultants are OK, they're often used to people who just want the full works for reassurance.

missorinoco · 21/01/2008 12:05

your point is valid on both counts and very reasonable. does your consultant know you have 2 small children?

you get the last say. it's your body.

good luck

ahh thank you , your words of encouragement help no end.

MRI wasnt the pleasantest of experiences , but I got through it.The Women doing it was very good and kept on saying I was doing really well through the speakers. I was doing all manner of things from using the banging to visualise things, one set of bangs sounded like native American chant , so thats what I was seeing! Then I was counting breaths, doing my chakras, all non stop!!!
One test lasted 3 minutes and that seemed to go on for ages. I could feel it vibrate through my whole body! There were 3 times I nearly called a halt and was saying in my head I have to get out,I have to get out, but I pushed it aside and persevered. The tester later said she saw 3 times when I was clenching my fists and those were the same moments of eeeeeek get me out!!!

One tip , keep your eyes shut tight from the minute your in the bed and neck rest & they have left the room, and DONT OPEN!!! Its much better like that.

Makes it worse to see were you are.

Just to say that a bone scan only usually takes 3 hours from injection to scan, and that afterwards you can touch, hug, kiss your children, but prolonged close contact - such as co-sleeping, sitting on the sofa together watching tv for a long while - isn't advised till the next day.

melsy · 21/01/2008 13:27

ah k cmotdibbler, as they are saying NO contact here at all for 24hrs.

It will be impossible to arrange as theres NO one around to help me with dd2, dd1 at nursery half days some days and DH wont take anymore time off at all . Im hoping I dont HAVE to have it.

Thats a bit weird - who was it who told you that ? The consultant ? IME they know v little about radiation. I see you are in Middlesex - if you want to share which hospital it would be at, I could check with the physicists.
But understand your childcare issue as you can't take them whilst waiting around.
isotope scans are much more sensitive for bone breaks than anything else

melsy · 22/01/2008 17:57

Consultant phoned lastnight , agreed for now to postpone scan and see how I do over the next 6weeks , if pain doesnt improve then she suggested I book the scan then. She said she will still organise acupunture if the Dr is suitable at the hospital and physio.

She also re arranged medication plan , but I have my concerns with taking double the amount of ibroprufen than the box says, as diclofenac is making me very very sleepy and dopey. Might have to do anothr thread. Havent taken diclofenac today as thought I was drving, and Im in real bad discomfort now.

Thats the 1st time Ive done that and not one 100% with what theyve said and been able to discuss another way thats more suitable.

It was the booking in secretary at North mid cmotdibbler and also the booking in women at my hospital.
