Red raw under boobs

Sweatyboobs · 17/08/2022 17:35

So with the recent heat waves and high temperatures I’ve been a lot more sweaty than usual. This has unfortunately led to my underboob area becoming raw and sore from underwire bras. I’m a DD cup & breastfed both my children so boobs are heading south.

Does anyone have any good suggestions what I can use to relieve this red rawness, obviously want to get as much air to the area as possible but for the majority of the day my poor boobs need to be suspended in an over-shoulder-boulder-holder of some description.

Germolene or similar antiseptic, gets rid of it within a couple of days.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 17/08/2022 17:39

Bepanthen cream.

HippyChickMama · 17/08/2022 17:40

This works for me, it's talc free so doesn't turn to a gloopy mess

It could be a fungal infection. Canestan for athletes foot sorts mine.

MineIsBetterThanYours · 17/08/2022 17:49

I tend to use hydrocortisone the rash down.

But the best for me has been to use some deodorant underneath my boobs to keep them as dry as possible.

Megapint · 17/08/2022 17:56

I find sudocreme(?) Works well & I also add a little tea tree oil to my shower gel. Once it's cleared up I use a stick anti perspirant every day.

You need to start your own thread baby dust. I hope you get the answer you want.

GuyFawkesDay · 17/08/2022 18:00

Could be fungal infection so canesten cream and then cuticura medicated powder works brilliantly

Babbydust · 17/08/2022 18:00

Thank you I’m new to this lol I saw active and ran for help 🏃‍♂️

chilliesandspices · 17/08/2022 18:03

I agree with the two canesten suggestions. When I worked at a pharmacy the pharmacist always suggested trying that first and coming back if it didn't help. I can't remember anyone coming back.

Sweatyboobs · 17/08/2022 18:05

I have some sudocreme in the cupboard so will use that for tonight and look into the talc free powder as well.

I’ve never thought to use anti perspirant but will be now.

thank you

It doesn’t look or feel infected, just at the stage that has been rubbed and irritated - hoping to catch & fix it before infection stage.

If the sudocrem doesn't work, do try the canesten. It's not uncommon in hot and humid regions for skin folds to develop yeast/fungal infections. Horrible, but true.

MercurialMonday · 17/08/2022 18:10

bra liners might help once it's cleared up or liquid baby talc as preventatives.

Sweatyboobs · 17/08/2022 18:19

Definitely will be keeping an eye on how it goes and a fresh tube of canesten will be purchased immediately if needed.

I got a skin infection under my boob in the heat last year and had to send a photo to the doctor because nothing was helping (tried Canesten and Daktarin). In the end what shifted it was prescription Canesten HC with hydrocortisone.

Now, I take protective measures when it’s boiling hot weather. I use Lanacane anti-chafing gel, and body powder.

Pinkjacket22 · 17/08/2022 18:28

On a separate note I have breast fed 3 kids and the thing that works for me in keeping the area comfortable when I am sweaty (running) is an underwired sports bra (marks and spencer) with a non wired sports bra (shock absorber) on Top. Cant believe how high up they get with this system as they are not like that braless 😂 hence avoiding the chafing issue you describe. Hope you heal quickly.

chilliesandspices · 17/08/2022 18:33

You can pick up large tubes of generic canesten cream from online pharmacies. Just Google Clotrimazole 1% cream. It's much cheaper so you can use an effective amount rather than trying to make the tiny canesten tubes last.

Gaveitall · 17/08/2022 18:40

Dry very thoroughly after every shower or wash. Use hairdryer if necessary to ensure no moisture, then solid stick antiperspirant to stop sweating (not a plain ol’ deodorant), and a bit of baby talc.
I use men’s antiperspirant, Lynx or Dove. Who cares that it’s for blokes! Doesn’t clash with my perfume and this routine works successfully (for me.)

lemonyfox · 17/08/2022 18:40

I get this terribly under my c section pouch and sometimes under boob. The only thing that shifts it for me is sudacrem, BUT it needs to be a very thin layer. Sometimes when I'd put too much on it even made it worse - so I'd recommend a thin layer and very frequent showers to wash it off and reapply.

DeclineandFall · 17/08/2022 18:42

Canesten and a v thin layer of metanium nappy cream works for me. Have to wash your bras more often though.

ProfYaffle · 17/08/2022 18:46

My approach is to use Canesten when it's itchy and sort of shiny. See the GP if that doesn't help, I once had to have antibiotics to clear it.

To prevent it, use tea tree bar soap to wash and stick deodorant to stop the moisture.

TerrifiedandWorried · 17/08/2022 18:48

Also tighten your bra straps!
