Canesten cream making thrush worse?

Is this possible? It's been a long time since I used it but I have that horrible burning feeling and so applied some canesten. Only the burn got a lot worse after applying the cream. I've washed it off and now it's eased slightly but still unpleasant. It does feel like thrush and canesten has always been fine in the past but apparently not any more.

Are there any alternatives I can use?

Was it a fresh tube rather than one you’ve dug out of the cupboard?

I’d go to a pharmacy in the morning and get a generic fluconazole tablet. I’ve always found it more effective than the cream. They will have their generic clotrimozole cream too which is cheaper than canesten, but has the same ingredients, if you want to continue with cream.

Ask for for gynodaktarin cream . Kills 98% yeast infection even those resistant to canestan.

I had canestan resistant thrush and yes it made it worse !

It was one that had been in the cupboard a while. Would that make a difference? I might have an unopened tube I could try. Got prescribed loads by my gp for some reason last time I had it.

@stillvicarinatutu ah ok. I will give that a go then, thank you. Does it have to be prescribed or can you buy it from chemist?

Prescription- but explain that canestan made it worse and they'll prescribe.

Don't use an opened tube, now it's hard to know if it's old cream reaction or actual Canestan resistent thrush.
Try a new tube (in date) and if that doesn't work ask for Flucanazole, 2 doses 48 hrs apart. Only thing that ever works for me.

Thanks. I think I'll try a pessary instead as I have no more in date cream to try now. The cream I used is still in date but has been open a while.

Gah, it's unpleasant. Might be buying vagisil as well at this rate.
