Pain in left side-only when sitting

5 replies

As the title says, I frequently get an aching pain in my left side, but only if I'm sitting down.

It's around my ribs and is often eased by sitting up very tall and straight.
It's almost as if I'm squashing something by slumping.

Obviously I can and should sit up straight more, but it doesn't always help and I wonder what it is.
I've had it for years on and off but it seems to have been more frequent in the last few weeks.
I'm pressing the area now with my fingers and that's quite painful but as soon as I take the pressure off the pain goes.

I don't want to go to the dr with it as it seems a bit trivial and it's so hard to get an appointment.

Any ideas?

Is it between your ribs or in your abdomen ?

I get this on both sides sometimes, and only if I am slumping (not both sides at once, bit occasionally I get it on one side and occasionally on the other). I just assume it is to do with poor posture and some core strengthening exercises normally make it go away

@KangarooKenny definitely ribs.

@Sheepreallylikerichteabiscuits thanks! Sorry you get it too, but it does sound very similar.
I'll try core exercises- I could do with doing those anyway.

I definitely only ever get it on the left side but I suppose that's to do with which way I slump!!

Sounds like it might be costochondritis.

Yeah I get it on my right side more but that's because of the way I slump. I also get it more in the passenger seat of the car when I am tired, which makes me also think its poor posture as the car seat isn't great.
