MRI - jewellery

If you can't take jewellery out can you have an MRI - the lady on the booking line said it will be ok as some people just can't and it just feels hot? But most site searches say has to be removed.

Any thoughts?

Titanium is ok I think but anything else surely needs to come out?

I was allowed to keep my wedding/engagement rings on. They didn’t get hot (platinum). Had to remove my hair grips and I didn’t wear any earrings or anything.

I think it depends whether or not it's magnetic? Or at least the degree of magnetism?

Kaiken · 12/08/2022 21:27

My gold weeding ring doesn't come out and I keep it for my MRI. I have them twice a year

nocoolnamesleft · 12/08/2022 21:29

Certainly wouldn't want anything that responds to a magnet!

I kept my wedding ring on. Fat finger now, would probably have to cut it off. Had no issues other than a bit of warmth to it.

It must depend on the metal. My dd had to remove her newly done nose piercing ,as we were told the magnet was so strong it would just rip it out.

TwigTheWonderKid · 12/08/2022 23:14

I think it must also depend which bit of you is being scanned? I've had my breasts MRId and they told me I didn't need to take my earrings out.

Thanks all - got all earrings out (finally!) & had the MRI - anyone searching another time - they did say rings can stay on & any jewellery in area not being scanned -
