21 weeks pregnant and started having hear palpitations over the weekend...decided to download an app called fibri check and it says my heart rate is around 74 bpm but that my heart rhythm is possibly irregular !!! Obviously it's too late to do anything about it right now but I can't sleep because I'm so worried. Has anybody else had the same and it's been OK? I've attached a picture if the report....I know only a doctor can really tell me what it is but I'm worried right now 😅 also tested in on my partner and hid heart rate was regular

Irregular heartbeat please help

Ring 111 if you're worried.

Could you have covid? My first symptom was my heart rate going wacky.

MumTrain · 09/08/2022 22:29

I have a heart arrhythmia that came on really badly during pregnancy.

Go to the GP for advice, they will likely put you on a 24 hour ECG to see what’s going on. A lot of the time the ECG won’t pick up what is happening though, unless you have a specific incident while wearing it! An Apple Watch is a good basic tool that can show your heart rate and take an ecg for you if you can’t get to the bottom of what’s going on. Then a Kardia is another step up from that.

The cardiac team told me pregnancy makes heart conditions worse, all the extra blood and hormones!

loobylou10 · 09/08/2022 22:31

Mine came on during pregnancy. Was signed off work, given 24 hour ecg and diagnosed with SVT. Been on beta blockers ever since.

Madmax1992 · 09/08/2022 22:39

I had palpitations with my last pregnancy aswell but never got it checked and it went away once I started iron tablets....of course I didn't check using an app though so no idea if my heart rhythm was irregular or not 😩 could call 111 but Im Sure they will just tell me to go to A and E because Of being pregnant and it being to do with my heart...and no definitely not covid x

Yes I had really bad palpitation during my second pregnancy, felt absolutely awful and so scary, didn’t have an issue with my first. Had blood tests done (could be caused by low iron), ECG and an echo and all normal. Went away after I had the baby. Apparently it’s common and could be very normal, speak to your midwife/ GP/ consultant.

MumTrain · 09/08/2022 22:43

If you have episodes where your heart races at 100 Bpm or more, give it ten minutes and then get straight to hospital if it doesn’t come down. Have a look at the Valsalva manoeuvre which can help stop the palpitation.

Madmax1992 · 09/08/2022 22:45

My heart isn't racing at all, it's just I have been able to feel fluttering so I checked it using an app and it says some irregularities detected x

I'm hoping it's just this but no idea if palpitations cause irregular heart rhythm! I know the only way to know for sure is to get it checked out but I'm going to be panicking until then!! X

I always get palpitations when my iron is low, and it's always worse during pregnancy. But definitely get checked out!

MumTrain · 09/08/2022 22:50

Try not to panic. It’s good it’s not racing so it’s unlikely to be SVT. Hearts can be funny things under the stress of pregnancy. Hopefully the Dr will shine some light for you.

lking679 · 09/08/2022 22:55

I have ectopic beats which are the sort of irregular fluttering. I get them every now and again over a few days then they go. They get worse in pregnancy and were pretty bad in the 6 weeks after I’d given birth. Without fainting/dizziness/breathlessness/pain cardiologist said it’s benign. I had a appt and stress test/echo/ecg done privately before getting pregnant again to see what cardiologist thought and he said it was ok.
if you’re not having any of the above worrying symptoms I wouldn’t call 111 just your GP in the morning so you can get checked out. I find coughing or just bracing my torso to increase pressure can put a stop to any fluttering! Also keep on top of any vitamins/supplements too!

Eranzer · 09/08/2022 22:57

I'll bet it's your iron. I had huge fluttery palpitations literally every other beat in my last pregnancy. They started around 18 weeks, it made me feel really panicky thinking my heart was just going to burst any minute. Turns out my iron was just low, heart was fine, still persisted until about 35 weeks though once I'd finally reached ok levels.

Madmax1992 · 09/08/2022 23:03

I hope so !! I've ordered some ferritin because that was what was low last time, think its something that's in your iron? Yeah no breathlessness, dizziness or racing heart but it's still worrying all the same!! It's hard to enjoy being pregnant when it brings out healthy anxiety inducing symptoms!! X

cant you just take your own pulse manually? I’d do it for a good minute several times a day for a few days. And don’t panic, a bit of irregularity can be because of something pretty straightforward like low iron, although it should be checked out if it’s really there and persistent.

Madmax1992 · 09/08/2022 23:12

Well its definitely persistent, I've checked it about 10 times lol! So stressful x

It’s really hard to see the ECG on your photo. Hope the appointment goes well.

novacaneforthepain · 10/08/2022 12:45

Hi OP,
I use this app!

Please don't worry as mine says this all the time and when they send you the feedback (usually around 24-48 hours later) it is usually a normal thing and it says it's fine.

addictedtotheflats · 10/08/2022 12:49

It will probably be ectopic beats, basically your heart misses a beat then the one after that feels like a big thud. I get them from time to time and got it loads in pregnancy to the point my heart skipped every other beat, felt bizarre. Best to get it checked although it might be completely normal on the ecg as you might not be having them at the time. Ectopics are usually nothing to worry about.

novacaneforthepain · 11/08/2022 15:57

Any update Op?
What did hospital say?

Madmax1992 · 11/08/2022 17:46

Hi everyone, it was just ectopic beats and they've stopped today 😅. X
