How do you know you have heyfever?

For the last year I've had headaches and thought they were just that but now I'm starting to realise it's likely an allergy because of the pain in my sinuses and dry eyes.
I've taken antihistamine a handful of times and it's not made a difference.

If you have heyfever how did you work out it was that?

I'm trying to work out if I need to get a test done or if I can work it out some other way.

What else can I use other than antihistamine?

Thanks

If your main symptoms are headaches, sore sinuses and dry eyes (rather than a runny nose, itchy eyes etc) and antihistamine had no effect, I doubt it's hayfever. No idea what it could be though, sorry! I'd just go to the gp.

Sounds like sinusitis not hay fever.

You can steam, use warm compresses for your eyes and eye drops. Have you had a decent eye test?

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 10/08/2022 07:34

Try different types of hayfever tablets

Loratidine
Cetirizine
Fexofenadine

Get some white Tiger Balm and rub it on your temples, you don't need much, just a tiny smear. It should clear out your sinuses and help your headache.

One a day tablets do nothing for me but Benedryll works really well.

My main symptoms are a kind of pressure behind my eyes and an overwhelming tiredness, I also get a cough, blocked nose and a feeling like there are hairs or insects tickling my face.

Go to the GP?

BeechFairy · 10/08/2022 14:19

Doesn't sound like hayfever to me.
Hay fever
Itchy eyes
Itchy ears
Itchy roof of mouth
Sneezing, runny nose.
Streaming eyes.
All kinds of antihistamines, some help a little, many not at all.
Never had headache or sinus pain specifically with hayfever

I have itchy eyes, tickly feeling in my throat and an annoying cough, itchy face, constant sneezing and runny nose.

I generally feel like I’m swimming in itchy soup.

Antihistamine always helps - I was told to take the tablet before bed (so you have to make sure they’re not the non-drowsy ones - I find Piriton ok)

GP has just prescribed me antihistamine. He told me to take one a day for a couple weeks and see what happens. He said I don't have an infection. He said he could see that one of my nostrils is swollen.
