Need 2 root canals at 34

Feeling really gutted today as I’ve been told I need two root canals. I had fillings which didn’t get all the decay out so now it’s developed into a root canal. I didn’t take good care of my teeth when I was younger but have made much more of an effort since I turned 30.

It makes me feel sort of unclean having them this young.

I have terrible teeth despite brushing every morning and evening for the whole of my life and I feel really ashamed from time to time.

I actually think it's more common than you think, but understandably, people don't want to tell you.

Try to not worry too much. The important thing is that you get them done by someone competent (e.g. an endodontist) so that they work and last you a long time.

It's not your fault that the fillings weren't properly done after all. The whole point of a filling is to remove all the decay and then seal it up.

I've had two root canals and I'm a dental nurse! I'm 29.

I had two deep fillings which were very close to the nerve and was warned they might need root canals. 2 years later I did need root canals. Sometimes these things just happen.

It was only the other day I've had a crown prep for one of the root canals as once you've had a root canal those particular teeth become very week and my dentist saw hairline fractures in the tooth so to save the tooth from completely breaking they suggested the crown. Tbh, I'm just glad I don't have pain in those teeth anymore as they never felt quite right after the fillings!
