Ok so this is a bit weird but I have a strange subconscious hang up about being away from home. I really struggle to poo! This is longstanding and I have no idea why or where it comes from.

It usually takes about 4 days if we're away for a longish holiday but over a weekend I just don't feel the need to go, even though I begin to feel quite unwell. It resolves as soon as I'm home so it's clearly psychologically driven

I eat and drink normally (if anything a bit more than normal as we're eating out when away) but have no urge to go. Ultimately I end up with a really unhappy stomach and general sicky feeling.

Is there anything I can take for a gentle laxative effect. I don't want to give myself full on diarrhoea, just something that restores a normal toileting habit

Are you worried about other people hearing you or the smell ?
Try taking some Lactulose or prunes to keep things moving, and make time after eating to sit on the loo. Or try a strong coffee.

I've no idea why - I'm not terribly self conscious about it I just seem to much prefer my own bathroom!

We've just come back from a couple of days away and I felt rotten because of it. I can't stomach coffee so will try the other suggestions- thank you
