my partner went to collect his meds and they only had a couple of the tablets he needed, they gave him an I owe you ticket saying they owe him X amount of pills. We go on holiday today and the pharmacy still hasn’t had these tablets delivered! Can be just take this ticket to any pharmacy as you would an original prescription?

You need to get prescription back from chemist, then go and get them elsewhere.

No, because the prescription triggers the NHS payment for the pharmacist, so another pharmacist would have no way of claiming payment.

No. If I need it urgently I always refuse this and get the whole lot elsewhere.

I'm afraid you'll have to get your doctor to issue you with another prescription and try and get the meds from another pharmacy before you leave or if you're on holiday in the UK, from a pharmacy where you're staying.

It would also be worth getting the full picture from the pharmacy who owe you the the items. What's the delay? Is it just an ordering problem or are there difficulties in sourcing the medications such as shortages? If it's a nationwide shortage there's no point in getting another prescription for the same thing. You'd be better off asking the pharmacist what alternatives there are available (ask them to write these down) and explaining to the GP surgery that pharmacist says xyz medication is a possible alternative. Gps are often clueless what medications are long term unavailable and what a suitable alternative might be.

Best of luck and have a good holiday.
