I started taking 200mg x 3 a day on Tuesday afternoon.

How quickly might I expect it to work? (Will it work?)

Thank you!

Yes it works, may take between 24 and 48 hours to get into your system.

SuperCamp · 21/07/2022 10:07

Thank you…fingers crossed.

Just coming on to say don't touch any alcohol not even in mouthwash! Also for s few days after you stop taking. Can make you violently sick

SuperCamp · 21/07/2022 11:17

Thanks for the mouthwash heads up! Alcohol very much off limits but I wouldn’t have thought of mouthwash.

Also Tiramisu!

I’d hope it would feel a bit better this afternoon. If it isn’t by tomorrow morning I’d call the dentist.

PinkFrogss · 21/07/2022 11:19

If you started taking it Tuesday it should kick in very soon, I used to find it only took about 2 days.

Flowers Tooth infections are one of the worst possible pains, hope you start feeling better soon. Salt water may help a bit too

SuperCamp · 21/07/2022 11:40

Something is happening: my cheek has gone a bit swollen and puffy which I like to think is the white blood cells gathering to cart the infection away…

Yes, if no better by tomorrow I will be on the dentist’s doorstep demanding they take the tooth out, without anaesthetic, with a hammer, anything!

I’m not quite at that stage, but the pain, the lack of a cold beer, tiramisu, sherry trifle, fruit cake with brandy, cherries in kirsch and everything I am now thinking about might send me thus deranged!

This sounds disgusting OP but it could be all the pus getting to the head, waiting for the abscess to “pop”.

Either way sounds like progress and hopefully you’re on the mend!

I am sorry today I didn’t start to feel better until day 5…. And needed a second course.

CreatingHavoc · 22/07/2022 08:50

Any facial swelling should be checked out urgently by a dentist. Hope you're ok.

SuperCamp · 22/07/2022 20:52

OK, well it isn't improving, in fact I would say it is getting worse.

I should have called the dentist today but this morning the paracetamol was working and I thought 'aha, at last, it' getting better' and didn't.

The dentist has told me to take 1 x 200mg tablet 3 times a day But I have now read the leaflet in detail and looked on Google, and it suggests that this is not nearly enough. Can I just take what it says in the leaflet? i.e double the dose?

I'm currently taking 400mg 3 times a day for a tooth infection, it worked after around a day but with previous infections with the same tooth 🙄which resulted in facial swelling that was a different set of antibiotics along with the metronidazole.

Can you find an emergency dentist I don't think you've been prescribed enough metronidazole.

SuperCamp · 22/07/2022 21:14

They are open in the morning, I am going to phone.
Aaargh!
Expensive private dentist that I can't really afford, too. Not happy.

Might risk taking a 400mg dose for the last of the day.

I've just finished metronidazole for an abcess, I was on 400mg twice a day, the pain stopped in 36 hours & the swelling had gone within 3 days.

Mycatsgoldtooth · 22/07/2022 21:17

It didn’t work for me. Sorry. Had to get amoxicillin which cleared it up in hours after five days of metro. I did lots of hot salt water rinses and to drain it.

SuperCamp · 22/07/2022 22:05

I am allergic to penicillin so I don’t think I can take amoxicillin.
