Dp's sweat smells of rhubarb

Wtf.

Like the stuff I've picked and cooked up with sugar.

I've googled and found references to ketosis and raspberry smell but not rhubarb so now I'm worried I can smell cancer.

He's had it at least a month now whereas before he just smelt of nice fresh sweat with the odd hint of truffles. Loved it lol.

I asked him what's changed and if he'd consider changing his diet for a few days (no). All he could think of was he's eating more fruit.

Any ideas?

I'm off to bed now but will check back tomorrow.

Could it be a pear drops kind of smell?

user850301848172 · 16/07/2022 22:31

Has he been tested for diabetes?

ncqtime · 17/07/2022 21:32

No idea what pear drops are like have never come across them. But he smells fruity for sure.

He hasn't been tested for diabetes but I have strongly suggested this.

Well he's agreed to cut out the shit ton of added sugars he usually eats starting tomorrow so fingers crossed that reverses the issue. More googling required there...

Thank you

How old is he? Diabetes in children is not something to try changing diet and wait and see. It's something that really needs an appointment tomorrow with a GP.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 17/07/2022 21:37

He needs to be checked for diabetes, not faff around with his diet.

Untreated diabetes can cause permanent issues.

xyzandabc · 17/07/2022 21:37

Apologies, I misread DP for DS.

If it's been going on a month, I'd say it's a GP issue, not as emergency as a child but still needs to see a doctor.

butisitreallyme · 17/07/2022 21:44

Has he been eating fenugreek at all? I ask because DP once started smelling really peculiar and sweet, like maple syrup, and eventually we realised he'd eaten a curry in a restaurant with loads of fenugreek a couple of days before. I googled it and it was a thing - I know maple syrup and rhubarb aren't the same but maybe the smell is fruitier to you.

Try get a fasting glucose and HBA1c blood test as soon as he can. That will tell immediately if it is full blown or pre diabetes. I had one in March, and was borderline pre diabetes, but watching carbs and sugar together with a couple of days a week of intermittent fasting has sorted it in the latest round of bloods.

I came in to say possible diabetes!
GP appointment ASAP. Smells are signs something is not working fine on the metabolism.
Other option is ketosis.
