How long to dispense new glasses?

Just that really. If you’ve had an eye test, got the new prescription, ordered your specs - how long until they’re ready?

i was waiting about a week between test and getting new glasses

Asdf12345 · 13/07/2022 13:59

I’m usually told by the till operator it will
be a couple of hours.

Half an hour later the guys in the back will phone to say they have to order the lenses and it will be 2-4 weeks.

Even ordering online it’s a few weeks as I have an unusual prescription.

PuttingDownRoots · 13/07/2022 14:00

2 weeks for me recently

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 13/07/2022 14:00

Depends entirely on the prescription and the lenses and if they have someone on site who can cut them. Could be anything from a few hours to a week or two.

SweetPetrichor · 13/07/2022 14:01

It was a week for me - just got some this month!

WeeOrcadian · 13/07/2022 14:11

It's been years since I had glasses in a few hours, it's more like a week for a high street optician's, maybe the same for ordering online (which I'd highly recommend, I've saved a fortune ordering them online)

hartof · 13/07/2022 14:13

Had appointment Saturday tea time, they were ready for collection on Tuesday. That was vision express

FlamingMadKatie · 13/07/2022 15:36

Oh blimey. Boots took two weeks, then prescription was wrong, one lens no use, then they were in a muddle with appointment to “check” glasses. New prescription, more or less told it’s my fault. Over two weeks now, still waiting. Oh well, you live and learn. Will never use Boots Opticians again.

Yep boots - the only optician on the high street that cannot replace a screw in their own frames - they sent me to specsavers.

boots are utterly crap at just about everything including pharmacy.

Roselilly36 · 13/07/2022 18:38

Entirely depends on the prescription, if the opticians have an on-site lab and you have a regular single vision prescription lens that is held in stock, sometimes specs can be dispensed in an hour or so. If you have a more complex prescription, ie vari’s, prism and the lenses need ordering in, usually 4 days to a week. Why didn’t you ask when ordering , if the information wasn’t forthcoming? Call them up and check. Good luck hopefully you won’t be waiting too long.

Had a sight test with Boots last Wednesday and collected my glasses this Monday

Daisytomhope · 13/07/2022 21:27

Had appointment last Wednesday for eye test, picked glasses up today. That was with a small specsavers, if I went to the larger one 10 miles away I could get them done same day.

FlamingMadKatie · 13/07/2022 22:48

I did ask, they said “oh they’re coming in pretty quickly now”. When I checked today they said “they all seem to be taking ages at the moment”.

Specsavers are a week turn around generally even for DS with a complex prescription.

Ladywiddio · 15/07/2022 01:48

When I needed glasses for driving Specsavers had them ready for me in 3days.
