If you’ve had a lot of antibiotics how do you keep your gut healthy?

I’ve had a lot of antibiotics this past year, at least one course a month since June last year. They have been making me feel nauseous and bloated the last few times I’ve had them. I’m sure my good gut bacteria must be out of kilter. Are there any ways of helping?

Actimel? I take long term antibiotics and have for the last 3 years but they aren’t full strength but I have actimel every day and I’ve been ok 😊

Kefir.

drink it daily. It’s proven to increase good gut bacteria. There have been a few programmes showing, from stool samples, increases in good bacteria after kefir, iirc it was a couple of months of drinking it before they repeated the sampling and compared the results so it’s not an instantaneous thing but definitely worth it.

I stock up on kimchi and keffir. Both disgusting but they seem to help.

As well as probiotic drinks and supplements you could maybe think about prebiotics, these can help the good bacteria grow in your gut. Prebiotic containing foods include things like garlic, onions, asparagus, Jerusalem artichokes, bananas, oats and apples. There's lots of lists on the internet if you want to look for more.

I send kefir, the cherry one is lovely!

I've had alot of antibiotics and I also have IBD. I've noticed a difference since I've been having it in the morning.

With great difficulty! Went to Holland & Barrett and bought the strongest probiotics I could find. Can’t say if they’ve made a difference to be honest, my guts still aren’t 100%
