How long for antibiotics to reduce swelling?

Hi

i was diagnosed with a perinatal abscess yesterday at the GPS. I have had it since Tuesday morning and the pain levels are excruciating. So far only cocodomol I was subscribed reduces it, though not totally. I started antibiotics last night. I wondered if anyone else had experience of how long it takes for the swelling, and hence presumably pain, to reduce?

I have a wisdom tooth infection and ended up in A&E, it took 3 days to notice any change, a week on and it's still swollen to a degree

Well the swelling has certainly reduced now….woke up and felt the abscess explode. Total mess everywhere and pus is still draining one hour later. Urgh.

Get some magnesium sulphate paste from the chemist. It will draw out all the gunk.

Magnesium sulphate is great but should not be used on open wound or broken skin

Not much pus now, just seems always damp with blood when I wipe it clean every hour or so

The pain relief after the last few days is bliss. I’ve never felt pain this intense before!
