its been five months since daughter topped going regulalry. she has been on 5 ml lactulose for 8 weeks. originally 10 mls then noticed she was going with only 5 mls, but now she has stopped going again. i thought things were on the up since reduced dosage and still regular now i feel we are back to square one. what is going on. i feel at my wits end and now really starting to worry that she has some bowel defect. what should i do. she is 2 1/2 years old and i think it all started when she started having new back teeth coming through. cannot think of anything else that changed.

anyone else been through this saga with positive outsome. please write here.
i will be taking her back to Drs on monday but cannot wait till then i need some advice now if possible. this is mean't to be the most natural thing in the world but it has become my demon. i come home and the first question is has she pooed today. i am now so anxious i am worried i have put that onto her too. by the way she is happy as normal and seems to go easily when she does go .

ON prescription only so ask GP. Do a search on here for lots of success stories.

Am in a hurry but my dd had the same problem aged 3-4 years old. It was a nightmare. When you get to this stage, lactulose and diet changes don't work and my dd needed to go to hospital for a series of enemas (3 I think) then a few more given at home. It was a little distressing at first but the relief was immediate. She is now 10 and for the first year after the enemas, I kept a close eye on her and at the first sign of constipation, increased fibre and fluids. She has had no problems since then. Please go to your doctor - we had to change GPs to get help. The difference in my daughter was amazing.

Another vote for Movicol. Also bucketloads of patience, understanding and gentleness.

I also got a book out of the library which I have found very interesting, it is by Anthony Cohn called Constipation, Withholding and Your Child.

My DD has been withholding since August, and just this week has done 2 huge poos in the toilet. She still withholds and is still on Movicol, but she now sometimes poos without holding some of it back, so it is a start. By the way this all started by her having one painful poo, and subsequently fear of pain.
