Lost all sense smell - not covid related

Has this happened to anyone else.
It's not just partial - I can't smell anything at all, even really strong smells.
I did have covid but it was many months ago and smell wasn't affected. I've had this for a few weeks now and have tested just in case but negative (and no other symptoms.
I AM menopausal and lots of odd things going on so wonder if could be linked to this.
Just feels really odd.

Have you or could you have had any head injuries? That sounds very strange, you should get checked out. Any other unexplained symptoms?

PurpleDaisies · 26/06/2022 22:04

This is something to consult your GP about.

SilverGlassHare · 26/06/2022 22:05

You should absolutely get checked out. I’m not sure if there is much that can be done but the longer it goes on, the less chance there is of a treatment.

I had the same after a bout of laryngitis. Completely disappeared for about 6 weeks. GP wasn’t concerned and it gradually came back over the space of a couple of weeks. I’ve actually got laryngitis again now, I wonder if it will happen again…

Ive had this for about 8 years now after a nasty virus.

It comes and goes. Its gone again at the moment, it will be back again in a few days or week or so but its like you say, nothing, I could have a lump of shit in front of me and wouldnt know.

It will come back but will take time

No head injury or anything.
No cold. Although I do think maybe I've started to get very mild hay fever type symptoms since menopause. (Although would expect that to lead to minor loss of smell rather than not being able to smell anything at all.)
Thanks for replies.

@bellac11 that's interesting. I wonder if it's something similar

Lost all smell and taste with sinusitis.

juniperjewel · 26/06/2022 22:39

Thank you everyone - I'll monitor it for another few days and then speak to someone if no improvement. (Was looking after baby niece and a particularly dramatic nappy confirmed the 'definitely no smell at all'! while everyone else ran a mile.)
