Painful jaw, mouth guard?

I've had a really bad jaw for some time now but it's gotten so much worse! It's hurts when I yawn, when I eat, I can't even bite a bit of sellotape off. I've just got a mouth guard and I've worn it for 2 days now but I wake up feeling uncomfortable from it. Do they really work and if so how long does it take? Is it worth a phone to the doctor? The dentist said there's nothing else I can do

Mine took a bit of getting used to, but certainly helps

Google TMJ and see if your symptoms match that diagnosis
Definitely consider visiting a physio or osteopath and ask about re-alignment and how it could be affecting your whole body
