I was in a shop too and nearly passed out. I was pushing the buggy yesterday morning and suddenly sneezed really hard , (withought holding myself as have something simialr to costochondritis) and heard something click and then it felt like something was tearing in my chest along my breast bone. The pain was so searing and burning I couldnt stand up, so the girl there got me on a low surface, 5mins later an ambulance arrived and theyre all talking very loudly at me. An oxygen mask put over my face and then etinox shoved in my hand and told to suck !!!!! Nest thing Im being put into a wheelchair and shlepped into an ambulance with the whole of my local town watching !!!

The irony is that Id just left the gp about the chest problem just 10 mins before and sorted acupuncture at my hospital!

After several tests, some very caring nurses and several drugs administered I was sent home to rest with several more days of very strong drugs.

Ive had to sort a mothers help as I shouldnt be moving to much , no ones around to be with me and the drugs are knocking me sideways , so it makes it hard to sort dd2. Im just wishing the morning away till 12 so I can get some things done here.

Blimey .. what was the pain? did you tear something?

melsy · 15/01/2008 09:44

very sore this morn, isnt tramadol and co codamol fab though!!! I wouldn't have slept without it. Ive never been a pill pusher , but right now give em ere!!!

Ive not had sensation like that since I gave birth. I was so convinced I tore something , it felt so like when I tore me nethers with dd2.

They cant see that I tore anything , nothing showed up in my bloods as infection or inflammation and chest xrays were clear. They said it was most probably a muscle problem ???? Dh reckons I just pulled myself very badly as I was already vulnerable in that area.

there is a muscle that goes over ur chest wall, dunno what its called but that is very easily pulled, i do it quite alot myself although no where near the extent u did, hope ur feeling better

melsy · 15/01/2008 19:18

Suppose its a bit like a sprain in an ankle , except its in my chest. My bra hurts .

I didnt realise how the co-codamol and tramadol felt like awake , as I went straight to sleep on the combo lastnight , but then had some more at lunch time. My word it knocks you sideways! I had to lay down for about 3hrs!

well its not easing and Ive just phoned an family friend whos an osteopath and hes said to may be not take the co codamol as it may not do anything, but continue the tremadol.

Hes suggested an ice pack for 5mins every hour, so im here having tied one to my chest using a long teatowl and that actually feels quite nice on it.

Im hoping I can see him somehow and get to the bottom of whats going on.

Thank you margo

if dd2 would stop screaming I might feel a bit calmer too. She wont stop, as I cant easily get on the floor with her and play and she keeps climbing all over me on my chest (of course) !!!!

ok so Fil said NOT to go to osteopath and I phoned a friend who's an osteopathic surgeon and he recommended I go to a rheumatologist , which I have done today, (thank god for insurance).

Its one of 3 things;

1 intercostal muscle tear
2 slipped disc
3 hair line fractured rib

Sooooooooooooooo tomorrow Im booked in for an MRI to see how the discs are and next week I have to have an isotope bone scan to check whether there's a fracture.

Im really anxious and nervous about both and think I may do a thread to see if others have had these. .

Once healed (if fracture or tear), I will have acupuncture and physio to sort pain and stop me getting a frozen shoulder from not being as mobile. Im hoping its nothing like a slipped disc [scared emoticon].

BadKitten · 18/01/2008 16:00

Thank goodness you have insurance! would have taken a long time to get all that on the nhs. I hope the mri goes well and its a simple explanation.

melsy · 18/01/2008 17:07

I know and tons more weeks of drugs too (and their side effects) Badkitten.

Im now on diclofenac, paracetomol and tramadol at night, as the tramadol during the day is just to much for me.
