I always smell and he's finally told me.

Partner of 4 years has told me I smell. He said it in a polite way, as if trying to help me.

I'm 26 and tbh I've always known I sweat a lot under my arms but his comment has hit home that other people probably think I smell too.

I work in an office and I often find that 10 minutes into put on a work top, I have sweat patches under my arms and I smell; even if I wear a black blouse, I'm uncomfortable as the armpit area is absolutely soaked through even though nobody else can see it through the black.

I finally hit breaking point today wearing a pink sleeveless shirt as it was hot. I thought since it was sleeveless that there was no way sweat patches would occur. I was wrong. After driving to work and going to the staff toilet first thing in the morning, I lifted my arms up to see sweat on the material just under the armpits.

I've also resorted to regularly using work toilet soap to wash under my arms every 2 hours; I still smell. Nobody has told me I smell, but I can smell myself so I try not to stand too close to people.

Anyway, I got home and just told my boyfriend that I think I sweat more than average and he agreed and said he's noticed I've smelt for years. I'm mortified since if he's noticed then probably everyone in work thinks I smell.

I'm fit, go on lots of walks, vegetarian, so I don't understand why I sweat so much?

I've ordered Odaban spray from Amazon and hoping it'll stop the sweat, even if it burns the armpit, I'd rather that than excess sweat.

Any other tips to get me through the next 2 days at work without sweaty armpit stains though? It's not due to arrive until Friday.

I found mitchum stopped working for me sure maximum protection 96 hours does work.

HairyMothballs · 12/09/2022 10:52

You need to see your GP. There are various medications that can help. In some examples of excessive sweating, Botox injections help. In very severe cases, the sweat glands can be surgically removed. Don't suffer in silence.

AloysiusBear · 12/09/2022 10:52

For the smell, its caused by bacteria not the wetness itself. It sounds extreme but I've found that popping a capful of dettol antiseptic liquid in a sinkful of water and bathing my underarms with it occasion reduces bad sweat smells.

Try washing your underarms with bar soap not shower gel. Cotton clothes.

This is a zombie thread ffs can we all stop?

What are you the thread police? Have a word with yourself.

AloysiusBear · 12/09/2022 10:56

I then spray some perfume directly onto the armpit afterwards

Don't do this. It's very harsh and irritating and is probably making it worse. Trying to mask a bad smell with other smells is pointless, you need to tackle the bacteria causing the smell so focus on keeping super clean.

Ffs, this thread is from June. I’m sure the op’s worked out the issue by now!

Way too much washing and mixing stuff under your armpits.

Clean clothes including bra until you get it under control.

Wash before bed and before dressing with a bar of soap, rinse and dry properly.

You can buy Mitchum spray at any supermarket, go get some today instead of waiting two days.

Wear natural fibres.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 12/09/2022 10:58

If above doesn’t work get to the Gp for help

Notimefor · 12/09/2022 11:00

I had this problem when younger - so I do sympathise, I use Mitchum roll on and it doesn’t let me down.

Beautiful3 · 12/09/2022 11:07

I am a naturally sweaty person. I have to wear white/black/navy tops only. Otherwise I get massive sweat patches from the armpits down towards my waist! I found that sure sport (cream one that lasts all day) the one that costs £5 helps. I've had driclor prescribed. It's applied the evening before, and closes up your armpit pore. It did work. It stops sweating. But I was massively itchy in the armpits, I stopped using it. However I've seen something on tic toc, that's supposed to help. I'm going to try it and see. It's in the screen shot below.

I always smell and he's finally told me.

People are allowed to contribute what they want when they want. You and another think you can police threads. Yet you commented on it? Just hide it if it bothers you that much!!

Twawmyarse · 12/09/2022 11:11

I'm sure someone has probably mentioned it already but Driclor - which can be purchased from a pharmacy or at least could in the 90's - changed my life. I went from sweat dripping down my arms every day and a life of misery to absolutely nothing within a few days!

FlaminNoraPhyllis · 12/09/2022 11:18

I talc my armpits and then when most of that has wafted away, put deodorant on

I think some people do sweat more than others. I’ve always found the spray antiperspirant useless. I used to swear by Mitchum but I think they’ve changed the formula recently and I find it’s less effective. I do a physical job and on my work days I use Perspirex, it’s amazing.

Iadorerain · 12/09/2022 11:51

washing with Shield tablet soap is excellent as well, made in the UK and good for sensitive skin.

Ilovenutellaaaaa · 12/09/2022 12:00

See your go about the excessive sweating, it can be a symptom of health issues

Also get yourself an antiperspirant deodorant (like the ones that stop sweat for 12-24 hours) and thoroughly wash the armpits and dry them then apply plenty of it

Also try talc (baby powder) add a dusting of it over antiperspirant so if any sweat makes it through it will at least soak it up and might disguise any odours

Also Botox injections can help with sweating armpits

Also on Amazon there is sweat shields or dress shields (I think that might be the name) they stick to the inside of the clothing (like an armpit area) and any sweat that comes out will go onto that (and if needed to you can remove it and apply another

Ilovenutellaaaaa · 12/09/2022 12:02

*GP, not go

Day20 · 12/09/2022 21:00

@Jpk1110o how are you getting on OP? Have you tried the Mitchum stick yet?

santorinii · 12/09/2022 22:19

Sorry but you can’t smell that bad if
your partner hasn’t mentioned it before and is happy to remain in smelling distance to you.

honestly speak to your GP but if no one at work is raising this as an issue, stop fretting

Ooo I don't think you should use talc these days.

dementedpixie · 14/09/2022 17:22

You get talc free powders

dementedpixie · 14/09/2022 17:24

Although talc in the armpits wouldn't be an issue. Is it not the genitals that the talc issues are allegedly about?
