I always smell and he's finally told me.

Partner of 4 years has told me I smell. He said it in a polite way, as if trying to help me.

I'm 26 and tbh I've always known I sweat a lot under my arms but his comment has hit home that other people probably think I smell too.

I work in an office and I often find that 10 minutes into put on a work top, I have sweat patches under my arms and I smell; even if I wear a black blouse, I'm uncomfortable as the armpit area is absolutely soaked through even though nobody else can see it through the black.

I finally hit breaking point today wearing a pink sleeveless shirt as it was hot. I thought since it was sleeveless that there was no way sweat patches would occur. I was wrong. After driving to work and going to the staff toilet first thing in the morning, I lifted my arms up to see sweat on the material just under the armpits.

I've also resorted to regularly using work toilet soap to wash under my arms every 2 hours; I still smell. Nobody has told me I smell, but I can smell myself so I try not to stand too close to people.

Anyway, I got home and just told my boyfriend that I think I sweat more than average and he agreed and said he's noticed I've smelt for years. I'm mortified since if he's noticed then probably everyone in work thinks I smell.

I'm fit, go on lots of walks, vegetarian, so I don't understand why I sweat so much?

I've ordered Odaban spray from Amazon and hoping it'll stop the sweat, even if it burns the armpit, I'd rather that than excess sweat.

Any other tips to get me through the next 2 days at work without sweaty armpit stains though? It's not due to arrive until Friday.

Hi Mitchum is good but I think the sure 72 hr cream is better. Sprays are useless. Wash with a bar of soap. Google clothes protectors for sweat. You can buy stick on ones for the arm pit area to protect your clothes. Odaban is great 4 the face esp. Good luck

I tried everything including all the special deodorants ! Only thing that works for me is Botox and lasts around six months . Expensive but well worth it ! X

Nodancingshoes · 28/06/2022 07:14

Mitcham is a game changer. I used to sweat alot at work as it is quite physically demanding. I was then paranoid that I smelt. Since using the Mitcham roll on, I literally have never had this problem since!

Neveragain2022 · 30/06/2022 21:37

I ordered NUUD online after reading this thread because I was looking for a more natural deodorant and I am having more sweaty moments during perimenopause. It is a game-changer for me it is really good. Botox worked for some of my friends but ultimately the trade-off was according to them that they sweated more somewhere else. One was feet one was crutch region so a bit of a gamble but worth it and it wears off. I hope you get sorted. I've recently had covid and lost my sense of smell and I realised how sensitive to smell I am. Maybe your partner is hypersensitive to smell. We all rot and decay as we get older anyway so we will all smell in the end.

Definitely go to your GP. There are medications and procedures you can try. I have secondary hyperhidrosis from PoTS and I've tried multiple medications, antiperspirants, and even Botox.

Yes I drink a lot of water; overall I'm a very healthy person - lunch is fruit and some veg sticks and water all day whilst at work; I admit I drink loads of coffee

I don't think that sounds healthy at all. You need protein as well as fruit. Low blood sugar can cause sweating. Ease up on the coffee and add protein, veg, nuts and seeds to your food in work?

Libertyqueen · 11/09/2022 23:19

Go and buy Mitchum. Honestly much, much better than sure. It may well solve the problem.

Tierne · 11/09/2022 23:23

I cant believe this thread got to page 19 when OP checked out on page 3. Disappointed.

Boxowine · 11/09/2022 23:25

The smell is from bacteria in the surface of your skin. It's not coming from inside your body. If you sweat a lot the bacteria will have something to breed in but if you wipe with rubbing alcohol under your armpits you will kill the bacteria. Then try some of the other suggestions for antiperspirant/deodorant and or treatments.

ScurryfungeMaster · 11/09/2022 23:28

Apparently using glycolic acid on your underarms can help to get rid of the odour, "the ordinary" sell it for £8 a bottle at Boots. Also using mitchum deodorant (the stick variety) followed by a spray deodorant works wonders for me.

France98 · 12/09/2022 00:22

@Jpk1110o

Mitchum roll on will genuinely change your life.

I used to have the same issue, not overweight, just sweat more than the average person. Bought mitchum and I swear, I have zero issues.

Buy it and update!

Carlycat · 12/09/2022 00:51

Definitely GP appointment and Mitchum deodorant which I swear by

Thatboymum · 12/09/2022 01:22

I had this issue for years it was so awful I would always only wear black and felt so limited I was miserable, I was eventually diagnosed with hyperhydrosis I now get Botox and use perspirex and can’t express how much better it’s gotten I can finally wear coloured clothes without embarrassment or worry. As a fellow sweater don’t worry about the next few days until your stuff comes you’ve been smelly for so long what’s another 2 days lol

Mumandcarer · 12/09/2022 01:24

Maybe cut back on the coffee. Do you use shower gel? I find showe gel makes me more likely to sweat. I use dove or pears soap much better.

Cw112 · 12/09/2022 01:27

Go to the gp, some people just have over active sweat glands in certain body parts and it can be treated. I had a friend who had this problem with her hands and I'm nearly sure they gave her botox injections to stop it. (May be wrong that it was botox specifically but it worked)

Mumandcarer · 12/09/2022 01:30

You definitely need to cut back on caffeine. It says here it can cause excessive sweating.

Do you think maybe the OP has received enough advice seeing as the thread is 3 months old and several hundred posts in?

Mehhhhhhh · 12/09/2022 01:53

quit dairy and processed sugar.

TheEggChair · 12/09/2022 02:21
  1. See your GP to see if there's a medical reason for your excessive sweating
  1. Wash with soap instead of shower gel. Dettol anti bacterial soap available in boots & Superdrug is especially good.
  1. Use Mitchum deodorant
  1. Wash your clothes in a hotter temperature 40" - 60" with biological washing powder
Fraaahnces · 12/09/2022 04:00

I would definitely see your GP. There are lots of reasons for excessive sweating, including hormonal irregularities, illnesses, etc. (Especially if this is new or has worsened over time.)

Marvellousmadness · 12/09/2022 04:09

That is one patient man. 4 whole years and he said nothing?

Your diet doesn't dictate how much you sweat

Sweat doesn't smell
The bacteria it comes in contact with does

There are pads one you can apply in the armpit parts of your clothes to absorb sweat

Botox injections can help.

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 12/09/2022 04:23

How are you getting on OP?

scarletisjustred · 12/09/2022 04:54

I did find Mitchums' antiperspirant brilliant. I think sprays are useless. I use the rollon. The instructions are that you apply to underarms before going to bed and then also apply in the morning. I don't like the version with a smell. I use the unscented one. I think your tops are probably a bit whiffy - when you iron them they probably smell. I found using a vinegar spray on my husband's shirts and letting them sit for a few moments before washing got rid of the smell of sweat during the ironing. It was much easier than my previous method of scrubbing with stain removing soap. I just put white vinegar in a plastic spray bottle and spray away.

I never put perfume on my underarms as I think sweat and perfume smells worse than just sweat.

If you are a person who rushes around try to slow down a little. Try to stay calm if you can.

If it's any consolation, my husband made a similar disclosure to me. It stung though it was meant kindly. In my case, it was feet. I threw out some older shoes and treated the rest with lashings of odour removing spray and tried never to wear the same shoes two days in a row. I also put Mitchums on my soles. Every so often I check with my husband and he has always confirmed that the problem has never recurred. I almost always wear leather shoes as well.

ScarlettnotOHara · 12/09/2022 05:22

Yes you can get Botox, this is a medical problem, Google hyperhidrosis.

Mrsuntidy · 12/09/2022 06:18

I sweat and smell loads. Mitchum never worked for me but sure max does. About £5 in a box.
