HELP - water infection and due to go to a festival tomorrow

horrendoustiming · 15/06/2022 15:39

I can't get a doctor's appointment for today and my train leaves at 8am tomorrow. Pretty sure it's a water infection, my wee is cloudy despite drinking loads, bladder hurts especially when I wee and my urethra stings too ☹️

I have some of those soluble sachets. I will get some cranberry juice and avoid caffeine.

Any other wonder treatments or tips anyone can think of?

This is our "holiday", I'm gutted at the timing 😭

Boots. You can order online. £22 for 3 days of antibiotics.

Firstsitdowntoday · 15/06/2022 15:49

Ring 111 they will be able to send antibiotics to a pharmacy for you to collect.

LIZS · 15/06/2022 15:51

Nurse Practitioner or Pharmacist may be able to test a sample and prescribe.

RedCarsGoFaster · 15/06/2022 16:01

Go to a pharmacy - or rather ring ahead to check they have someone there. Many pharmacists can prescribe you the antibiotics themselves

IStandWithMaya · 15/06/2022 16:16

Hope you manage to get some antibiotics. Good luck OP.

NrlySp · 15/06/2022 16:19

I took the 3 days antibiotics and it made it worse Long term. Didn’t totally get rid of the infections and it hung around for ages. A 7 day course is much better

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 15/06/2022 16:29

Can you afford to pay to see someone? Babylon can do a private Nurse Practitioner appt who can prescribe.

spiderlight · 15/06/2022 16:35

Cystopurin are much much more effective than any of the other sachets, in my experience. You might have to ask for them over the counter though. Hopefully you'll be able to get antibiotics from the pharmacy as well.

Firstsitdowntoday · 15/06/2022 16:36

I agree with @NrlySp try and get a 7 day course if you can. 3 day courses can cause problems with not being long enough to get on top of the infection.

Afterfire · 15/06/2022 16:36

Ring 111, they can send a prescription for antibiotics to your nearest open local pharmacy for you to collect tonight.

Effervescent vitamin c tablets and lots of water. I was told this by a pharmacist in Amsterdam years ago and it does work.

OldTinHat · 15/06/2022 16:45

Definitely try a pharmacist.

Is it the IoW festival you're going to? If yes, I'll see you there! The festival site is on the edge of town with loads of chemists in case you get stuck.

Feel better soon and have a great time!

TakeYourFinalPosition · 15/06/2022 16:47

Go to a pharmacist.

Cranberries don't do anything for active infections. They may help to prevent infections but have been shown to do nothing at all when you've already got one.

You'll want antibiotics and to drinks lots. Get well soon.

I was going to say lemon juice in water really does work. I suppose it's the same thing really, the acid kills the infection.
But obviously antibiotics would be better.

D-mannose powder if you can get hold of it, I usually order online but think Holland & Barrett stock it if you can get there before closing.

FrustareNT · 15/06/2022 19:08

I second calling 111and getting a prescription to your closest late night pharmacy or find a pharmacy close to where your festival is and collect it from there.
I hope you have a great time BTW 😍

horrendoustiming · 15/06/2022 19:18

Thank you all so much!

No joy with pharmacist and 111 are exceptionally busy, so they say.

Have managed to order a prescription via Superdrug and will collect from near the festival. In the meantime I've got lots more sachets and I'm chugging water like it's going out business.

@OldTinHat yes it's IoW! See you there Smile

I second D-Mannose. Either powder or capsules. It changed my life (I used to get constant UTIs) and worked a lot better than antibiotics.

OldTinHat · 20/06/2022 17:13

@horrendoustiming Did your UTI clear up and did you manage to have a great time?

horrendoustiming · 20/06/2022 19:16

@OldTinHat YES! It cleared up and I had an absolutely brilliant time, thank you for thinking of me Smile

Hope you did too?

@horrendoustiming I'm so pleased! Sounds daft, but I wondered how you were getting on :D Yay you enjoyed it!!

Shame about The Blossoms being cut short and the speakers taken down. Damn weather! Did you see UB40 and Rudimental? And Muse...and their 'ego stage'...😆 Lewis was hilarious!

Anyway, hooray you had a good time and weren't poorly. See you next year?! 😂
