I just feel nauseous on them, I’ve not been sick but I only just started them yesterday. Has anyone got any tips on lessening the nausea?

Are you taking them with food? As long as the instructions aren't to take them on an empty stomach, it is better to take them with a meal. What sort are they?

Yes I have taken them after food as no specific instructions not to. They are doxycycline.

Oh. Those are really unpleasant. I think you just have to plod on but let your gp know if you start being sick.

Peppermint tea is fabulous at treating nausea. And you could try sucking a mint.

Thanks, I don’t think I’ve had these before I have got to take one twice a day for 2 weeks so hopefully it wears off a bit.

When I had some that really made me nauseous, taking them with a big glass of milk really helped.

The first few days arw usually the worst. I had them a few years ago. Never sick but for the first 3 days my stomach was like a washing machine, constantly churning. The nurse told me you can tolerate them then you can tolerate anything!

Be careful that when you take doxycycline that you stay standing or sitting upright for at least half an hour after taking them as they can cause excess stomach acid (which may be what’s making you feel sick) to the point it can actually burn your throat.

Yourinmyspot · 16/06/2022 18:24

Thanks I’d read that in the instructions and make sure I take them with a full glass of water and stay upright for an hour.

Eurgh. Doxycycline always gives me horrendous nausea. Does help to never take it on an empty stomach.

I’ve found they are a bit better on a full stomach so I have one after my breakfast and one at 9 pm. They are evenly spaced then. Though forgot to take last nights until bedtime so had to stay up another hour! Only another 10 and a bit days to go…

Could you ask your doctor for some anti-nausea meds? I use cyclizine anyway, but you could get Stugeron over the counter, or ask doctor for metoclopramide. Or something to protect your stomach if it's acid, like esomeprazole? You shouldn't have to suffer!

I find having sour sweets helps with the antibiotic nausea. Also helps with the furry tongue feeling 🤢 feel better soon OP I've got 4 days left of hefty dose antibiotics ❤️
