Dd1 (8) has very overcrowded teeth. We had to visit an Orthodontist today, and he said she will have to have some extracted and a brace fitted, though not for a while as she is too young at present. Dd is understandably worried about the extractions and I was telling her that she would be asleep and wouldn't know what was happening. My mum then chipped in (very unhelpfully!! ) that she didn't think they didn't put children to sleep anymore because of "that little boy who died under anesthetic"!!! Surely they wouldn't pull her teeth out whilst she was awake!!! I am sure you fellow MNers could give me some sensible and non hysterical advice please, unlike me mam!!!

ds has a tooth extracted a while ago and they sedated him rather than giving a general anasthetic. It was supposedly like having a trip, so he was awake but non compus mentis and he was a bit disoriented when he 'came round'. He had some wild (but enjoyable) dreams which is all he can remember.
