How long for hair to improve after low ferritin loss?

I’m 8 months into my supplements. My hair is still shedding more than usual and I have patchy areas around my face. I am
not sure what my current ferritin level is, but it began at 13 and has been about that for at least 6 years.
I do have two tiny tiny half moons coming back on two fingers and most other low ferritin symptoms have greatly improved or gone. But this hair loss won’t shift yet.
I was so hopeful at the beginning that this could be dealt with. But now I’m panicking it’s not going to get better 😭
Did anyone else find it took as long as this? Just after some hope really.

I had to have iron infusions to get mine under control and my hair to start to regain its volume.

Do you know why your levels are low?

My hair never came back.

Oh, I was never offered an infusion and my levels have been as low as 6 over the past years. Never higher than 19. What was your level when you had it? And did you get it done privately?
How long after that did you see signs of recovery with your hair?
I’m so worried I’m going to go bald. I’m losing tiny baby hairs too.
I think my cause is heavy periods, exercising and I also have IBS-D. However I lost a lot of blood after having my son 8 years ago. I was so bad my milk didn’t come in until I started tablets. I didn’t take them for very long and I actually think I have never recovered from that.
thanks for your reply.

Oh goodness me, that’s awful for you. Do you know what your level got to? What is your hair like now? And do you still supplement?

Might be worth seeing a dermatologist.

I got bloods done for hair loss and my hormones were normal but ferritin was very low. Was happy that this was the answer rather than female pattern hair loss but the dermatologist still diagnosed me with hormone linked hair loss (hormones are normal but my hair is extra sensitive) that has likely been uncovered by general hair loss from the low ferritin.

The good news is that with iron supplements as well as other medication my hair has mostly grown back. I also now take tranexamic acid which wand my periods are about half as heavy as they used to be so I feel so much better all round.
