6 days of cold/sinusitis. Do I need antibiotics?

So my cold has turned ino sinusitis. I had sinusitis around x-mas so this is the second time. I am waiting for GP to get in touch. I'm trying steam, sudafed, nose spray otrivine sinusitis, but I am still bunged up, and fed up and pale from breathing through the mouth. right now blocked nose, green-yellow stuff in nose, and breathing through mouth,

I think GP won't give antibiotics, they usually don't, but I will ask. Anything else I need to do?

This sounds weird af but I promise it works! Also something like a sinus rinse.

Clicky link. Hopefully.

Beconase is really good as it takes the inflammation away.

They're unlikely to give you antibiotics unless you've had a fever ime.

Thanks I am trying the pressure between eyebrows and tongue technique.

I have antibiotics, no fever but because of the greenish stuff. I think a cold started it. however this is the second time I've had sinusitis after 6 months, how can I avoid getting this in future?

My sinusitis lasted 3 weeks after a cold last month. I was continually bunged up and trying to release the mucous. I found steaming with menthol crystals helped and the sprays you can buy.

Hi! Can I ask how you are today? I think you’d have been on antibiotics for a week now roughly? I’m the same and I’m not much better? I’m wondering if something else is going on at the same time

mumznet · 19/06/2022 12:33

@MrsM32 thank you for asking. Yes I finished doxycycline yesterday. It took a whole week to get better and during that time I also noticed that my ears were blocked at times, so I then stopped the blowing and instead tried putting in some water in the nose and then gently cleaned it. I haven't got the neti pot so never tried that yet. What I did notice is that I have alot of hayfever, over the weekend it was hot and when I was out the congestion was too much. I quick loratidine heled in 20-30 minutes. Today I am still seeing light green mucus at times when I clean the nose. So, it may be another whole week to fully get rid of it. I didn't test for Covid. When you say if something else is going on, what do you mean? do you mean Covid (omicron)?

Hi! So glad you are finally feeling better! Funnily enough since I posted that one day made a world of difference, I was on day 6 of antibiotics and felt very fatigued and coughing alot due to post nasal drip which made my chest muscles hurt in turn, day 7 (today) of antibiotics now finished and I feel much better today! More energy about me but still have sore chest muscles, I think all the coughing over the last 10 days has hurt them, I also had a reduced appetite whilst my sinusitis was at its worst but today I had 3 meals and finished all, albeit smaller portions
not covid as I have done multiple tests and all coming up negative but maybe another infection of some sort, however I had a bad cold before the sinusitis and I think I’m weaker in general from that with it being one thing after the other, I still have a blocked nose too and I bought a Neti pot today which I’ll try for the first time tomorrow! Still blowing out yellow mucus also! I’m hoping I can go about my daily life this week because I was absolutely miserable and wiped out with it all last week! Here’s hoping we don’t get this again any time soon!
