reaction to MMR?

Just wondering what people's experiences of reactions to the MMR have been. My DD (13 months) had hers 12 days ago now and has had a fever most of the time for the last two days (about 39) but no rash. The fever responds to calpol but then goes up again when it wears off.

It's a bit complicated by the fact that we think she's also teething (there is serious drooling going on anyway, to the extent that I had to change her sheet in the middle of the night because it was sopping around her head). She has been off bf today after a marathon session in the early morning, which she also did many months ago when she first started teething. The other wierd detail is that I think she has bad breath, but my DH can't smell it. Could that be thrush? or (horrors) tooth decay??

All in all I'm not sure what to put it down to.

Has anyone else's dc had fever but no rash after MMR? How long did it go on for? Did you do anything other than pump in the calpol?

children often have bad breath when they're ill - it doesn't suggest thrush. mine have also been known to have a temp when teething.

10 days is a bit late for an mmr related fever though isn't it? I would just treat it like any other fever - give calpol, give lots of fluids and take to docs if she's still porrly in a few days.

i cant remember exactly as my ds2 is 4.5 now but he did have an almost constant ear/chest/throat infection for 6 months after having the mmr.it puts the immune system under alot of strain so she could have picked up a bug.i would take her to the doctor with a temperature like that personally.teething shouldnt cause a hight temp, and drooling alot could be a sign of a throat infection.

that's a good point about bad breath - i suppose i get it when ill too! funny what you don't think of.

the hv said that reactions to the mmr tend to be after about 10-14 days, so i've been on the look out.

thanks, though. will take to the docs if she's not better soon.

as long as it keeps coming down with calpol / nurofen I would give it a couple of days before seeking medical advice

if it doesn't come down within an hour of medication please seek advice .. DD had this following MMR and was admitted to hospital with pneumonia
