Is 47 too old to get sterilised?

Just that really 🤷🏼‍♀️

Been on one form of contraception or another pretty much all my life around having the kids which left me very rarely having periods.

Came off everything in January and have had two periods since so not sure if that could even be the start of the menopause.

I’m over the condoms so was just musing to whether this would be an option?

They will offer you Mirena I suspect. This is what has happened with me and friends when raising it - covers menopause (in combination with other stuff if necessary) and fertility.

Jubileeeeeeee · 02/06/2022 12:10

how are you with the coil?

FuchsAndMöhr · 02/06/2022 12:13

I had the mirena for years. I don’t want to go back to anything medicated really, hence why I stoped in the first place.

I have no intention of taking HRT either.

Copper coil? I don't get on with contraceptive hormones so had one of these put in a few years ago. The doctor said they're perfect to tide people over for the last ten years of fertility (I was 37 I think at the time).

For the first time in my life I’m on contraception- the Mirena with absolutely no side effects.
Sorry- key fact is that I’m 53.

FuchsAndMöhr · 02/06/2022 12:23

I’m not even sure I want that if I’m honest @Rosebuddleia. I’d not consider it though so worth a thought.

I'm not an expert on how they sterilise these days but I remember her saying that the stats show it's as effective as sterilisation whilst being a less invasive procedure. Periods were heavier afterwards but ok now.
