Eyeglass prescription with 20/20 vision?

Hi! I’m a bit confused and hoping someone can explain to me. I have eyeglasses that I rely on to read, thread a needle, trim my nails as I can’t focus close objects. It’s a hard squint without glasses, and very slow as I struggle to make out words. Can’t read fine print on eg medicine.

I had an eye exam today and, without glasses, one eye was evaluated as 20/20 and the other 20/25. I’m trying to reconcile this with can’t read without glasses as I thought 20/20 meant good eyesight, not needing glasses

Those numbers only tell you about distance vision — that you can read at twenty feet what you should be able to read at twenty feet.

That makes sense, thank you
