Shooting knee pain only when kneeling or contacting the knee cap area

I don’t have any pain walking, running, jumping but only when something contacts the front of my knee whether through kneeling on it or something touching it, a paint shoots through it as if I was struck by lightning in that direct spot. The pain goes from the middle of my kneecap to slightly down and outside of it. It doesn’t go down my leg or anywhere else and lasts a few seconds after I remove whatever was touching it. I can’t kneel on it all all or the pain strikes it. Has anyone figured out what this is and how to treat it?

Bursitis? Any swelling?

Lightkneeng · 28/05/2022 17:34

No swelling at all. It looks and feels perfectly fine if nothing touches it in that spot.

Housemaid's knee?

lauragriff · 28/05/2022 23:05

Hi
Ive had this for around 4 years now after I fell on my knee! I did go to the GP who thought it was bursitis (housemaids knee) and was also referred to Physio who didn’t give me a diagnosis but just exercises that didn’t help at all. I’ve never had any X-ray/ scan etc. I really don’t believe that I could still have bursitis 4 yrs down the line. I have the same symptoms as you - no pain at all I can run, jump etc but as soon as I kneel on the floor I feel as I’ve knelt on a piece of Lego and have a very sharp pain! I’ve just learned to stop putting weight on that knee if I’m kneeling. Let me know if you find any answers. I think it may be torn cartilage/meniscus tear from googling. My knee always clicks too but it’s done this since I was a child.
