Cough suppressants for theatre visit?

Hi everyone!

I have theatre tickets for a show in three days and unfortunately I have a chesty cough. It’s not covid, I have tested and I don’t feel I’ll in any way.

I really really want to see this show, I’ve been wanting to watch it for years and am very excited. Not to mention theatre tickets aren’t cheap. However, I will not go while I have a cough because I don’t want to spoil other peoples evenings by being that annoying person coughing around them and getting on their nerves, or making them worry about catching it.

I don’t mind wearing a mask while I am in there but I also don’t want to be disturbing the show by coughing. Does anyone know of anything that will suppress my cough that actually works? I’m willing to try anything over the weekend to get it under control!

thanks!

Halls Soothers or any other cough sweets (I prefer the Halls flavours). Used these years ago during jury service where all of us spread around the same cold and every cough was horrifically magnified in the massive courtroom Blush

I like the Halls Soothers as well. An alternative is Boots do blackcurrent glycerin throat pastilles

HappyAsASandboy · 20/05/2022 12:08

Suck chocolate. Don't chew it, just let it melt. That will also smell less awful the soothers/lockets for the people sitting near you!

Codeine can be prescribed to help suppress coughing. Obviously that's a notch above a soother or something.

I find soothers useless. Covonia seems to help me.

YouBoggleMyMind · 20/05/2022 18:03

Pholcodine Linctus

Agree sucking any sweets/chocolate will work but I do also recommend the Broncho Stop pastilles

Jakemans throat and chest are really good.

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 20/05/2022 18:49

Jakemans originals or provided you aren't allergic to bees the bee propolis cough sweets not only taste absolutely amazing but are bloody fantastic too

Mindymomo · 20/05/2022 18:52

Whatever you take, take the wrapper off beforehand. I find Jakemans last a long time. I tend to just keep one in my mouth. Also take a bottle of water.

I second the blackcurrant glycerin pastilles from Boots
