At what age to stop helping your child brush their teeth

Hi all, I was just wondering at what age are parents expected to stop helping their child brush their teeth? My children are 12 & 10 and the dentist says that I should be brushing their teeth for them still and I do still assist and advise but is it really necessary at this age?

I thought it was supervised brushing until age 7ish. I certainly wasn't doing their teeth at that age and definitely not at age 10 or 12

Dentist said 9 but still check regularly.

Do they use an electric toothbrush? I think it’s more thorough and effective than a normal toothbrush.

my daughter is 11 and she brushes her own but twice a week I do and good ‘once-over’.

in the last check up they gave us purple pills to take after brushing, it shows the areas that are not properly clean, but we keep forgetting to use them.

Our dentist always said 7 l, this is what the NHS recommends, but I guess it depends on the child. DS is 11 and I brush his teeth for him,after he has brushed them because he has special needs and struggles to do them properly.

I usually say to my patients that they can brush with supervision only when they have the dexterity to easily tie their own shoe laces.
