I have had a rough time, health wise. Five weeks ago I developed Peritonitis, perforated bowel, sepsis, bowel resection, then the joins in my bowel opened a little and this meant more pain, more painkillers, more antibiotics and another stay in hospital. I'm absolutely exhausted with everything.
I said in the hospital that my teeth looked awful, really yellow. I had been brushing as usual apart from the few days straight after the operation when I have no idea what was happening as I was barely conscious.
Today, I went outside for the first time. I thought a hair had got in my mouth. What I actually felt was a crack. I wasn't eating anything nor had I bashed it, my tooth just crumbled.
I've always had ok teeth. I'm just so down because it looks so terrible. It is also incredibly sore.
Do you think this is another lovely side effect of the medications or of my Crohn's or is my body just taking the oils out of me?

I have crohns too, so you have my deepest sympathy. My teeth haven't been affected though and I'm not aware that this part of it. I've had it for about 30 years though maybe I'm not up to date. Maybe discuss with your specialist and your dentist? I hope you feel better soon.

Could it be that you're deficient in vitamins and minerals because of your health issues? A bit like how pregnancy can affect your teeth. Poor you Flowers

Because of the bank holiday, I can't even make an appointment until tomorrow. I tried for an emergency appointment today but no luck. My DH thinks it will be the steroids that weaken the bones. Thinking back I have been on calcium supplements in the past but this round of steroids I didn't get any. To be honest, I was dealing with so much else, I didn't even question it.
That will be the holiday money gone... I will need the money for the dentist.

Prolonged use of steroids can lead to bone loss. So, chipping and breaking of a tooth because of the steroids makes it a lot easier for it to happen.

There is a definite link between teeth problems and IBD www.ibdrelief.com/learn/complications-of-ibd/teeth-and-ibd

Dentist thinks they will be able to put a crown on the tooth. I thought there would be no chance because so little of the tooth was left. She is confident it will work though. Fingers crossed.
I have a temporary fix just now which looks awful but covers the root so I'm not in pain. Still don't want folk to see me though. I look awful.

I hope that you are feeling better. I'm sure that your tooth will look fine when it's done.
