Bleeding ~ periods (maybe tmi!)

I had DS back in sept 2006, before that I had two periods between sept 2004 and oct 2005. Doc said it maybe my weight/baby etc... that made them stop.

Now I have been bleeding ALL the time, and not just a little either. Flooding. I stand up and I can feel it all oozing. I'm pee'd off with it all.

I know I should book and see GP but he is an old fuddie duddie.

This past few weeks i've noticed large lumps (sim to like when you give birth) about half the size of a penguin bar. Not nice Getting rather worried that it might be something sinister. My mum died of cancer when she was 54 and feeling abit worried about it.

Have mentioned to DH about it but you know what men are like when we mention our monthlies... which are now like 6 monthlies. I can't remember when I wasn't bleeding.

Anyone had this or have any advice???

Had similar to you, long long gaps between periods then didn't stop bleeding! went to doc who gave me norethisterone (sp?) which stopped the bleeding, had normal period then happened again so had more noresthisterone and now waiting for referral to gynae. Doc didn't seem too worried as to it being sinister, have had normal smears etc. Have no other symptoms ie pain etc. Sorry can't help more but you are not alone!

If you dont want to see your Gp could you see Dr at the family planning clinic instead?

worrier27 · 10/01/2008 18:45

ha ha if I said to DH I was going to the family planning clinic I think he'd run a mile...!! LOL.

Gonna have to bite the bullet and go and see GP.

I was due a smear back when I fell preg with DS which obviously I didn;t go for as I was preg and since then haven't booked as I have been bleeding the whole time bar a day/lighter bleeding.

Fed up and v. worried about it all.

Even old fuddy-duddies know who to refer you to for this kind of problem though, worrier. It's not something he will want to try to treat himself; he will probably prescribe you Norethisterone to stop the bleeding, and send you a referral to a gynae.

If it's any consolation, both my GP and the gynae I'm seeing for the same problem said that continous bleeding is highly unlikely to be anything sinister - it's more likely to be fibroids or something hormonal. Cancer usually presents as bleeding in between periods, or bleeding after having sex.

worrier27 · 10/01/2008 18:59

sex?... whats that??? ha ha.

I AM going to book an appointment tomorrow for next week. I have just been putting it off.

Just has me all worried and searching ~ you know the sorts of things us manic women do... imagining the worst.

Thank you! Glad to know i'm not alone.

Worrier, I drove myself crazy with worry until dh made me go to the doc. It is highly unlikely to be anything more than hormones as wigwambam said. My suspicion is possibly PCOS? And i also had the flooding and large clots which i had never had before, it is really horrible i know but you must get something to stop the bleeding asap.

I went to the dr on Monday for a similar problem. Not bleeding all the time but flooding etc for a few days each month. I have got to go back next week to be examined and for a smear test but she said it is pretty common and may well be fibroids. She gave me something called tranexamic acid which she says should slow down the bleeding and help stop the flooding/clotting. Sorry if tmi! Apparently she can give hormonal alternatives such as the pill but I am possibly thinking of having another dc sometime this year. Go to your dr it is nowhere near as bad as you imagine (at least it hasn't been so far!). I had been putting it off but in the end I figured it was better to know what was going on .. I can't live with not being able to go further than 10 mins from a toilet every month.
