What are these on my knees?

Hi all! For months now I’ve noticed these thick dark brown patches of skin on both knees and at the front of both feet next to my ankles. Is this some kind of eczema / psoriasis or is it just dry knees? I don’t get why it’s come on so suddenly! I’ve not done anything different. i did use a gradual tanning lotion once months ago without exfoliating but surely it wouldn’t cause this? I do have sensitive skin also. I’ve tried loads of lotions, emollients, oils etc and nothing has helped!

can anyone shed any light?

My guess is you kneel down a lot. It's just dry skin. Moisture and exfoliate!

It definitely is dry! It’s like rough and thick. I do kneel down but not loads, I try and avoid it where possible which can be hard with a toddler.

is it something that will clear up do you think? As I said it’s been months! And with the nice weather coming up I really don’t want them like this!

Burstitis that is. I once had that on my elbow.

Arthursmom · 28/04/2022 13:07

It's just where you kneel ...

Also the fact they look bruised means its healing.

I figured that’s what it was! Any tips on how to get rid?

My knees and elbows go dark, rough and scaly if left unattended. I recommend a vigorous exfoliation regime and applying coconut oil after your bath or shower.

Cerave moisturiser - SA smoothing cream designed for stuff like this

Arthursmom · 28/04/2022 14:40

It's just a type of hyperpigmentation from the kneeling/pressure point. You could exfoliate and moisturise more. It will fade in time but will be worsened from any tanning so wear sunscreen in summer of your legs are bare. Honestly, I have an 18 month old and have resigned myself to this until the constant kneeling stops 😂😂😂

Bursitis is internal not a skin condition!

I would choose a good emollient with urea op, moisturise daily and exfoliate regularly.

No my elbow wasn't in pain either but it started with a bubble under the skin that when burst turned in to a bruise. I had absolutely no pain or even reall knew it was there until I leaned on it and it felt like a bubble casing round it if that makes sense.

@Samarie123, bursitis is inflammation of a joint capsule in layman's term. The only affect on the skin is to make it swollen and appear red:
