Whats your previous yoga experience? Do you want a relaxing or a more physical practice.

AnnieOleTing · 10/01/2008 11:08

i haven't done yoga for about two year, since having DD. Before DS I did Ashtanga once a week, though the teacher always said I was very stiff! I also have arthritis, but it is under control, and my movement isn't impaired.
I would like something that gets me going, a little bit of a sweat!
Thanks yogimum

ooh, i'm interested as well. can't get to my ashtanga class now i'm on maternity leave, and don't have the motivation to do a session myself.

AnnieOleTing · 10/01/2008 11:30

Yes, bumper, serious lack of motivation here too.
My ashtanga teacher kicked me out when I was pg!! She said it would be too much for me. I was pretty crap...

okay, these are ones I have or the ones I want.

Yoga with Anne-Marie Power yoga - I have it on video, www.yogawithanne-marie.com

beyond dynamic yoga (the power of ashtanga) with William Robertson www.visima.com

dynamic yoga - the power of practice, with Godfrey Devereux,

Ones I found on Amazon which I would think are pretty good are:

Any of the Gaiam series, there are some with a very good teacher called Rodney Yea.

Bryan Kest, though its says you need a multi-region dvd player. I went to his class in LA. Excellent teacher.

Vinyasa flow with Seane Corne.

I also like Baron Baptiste,Shiva Rea for a more flow practice.

AnnieOleTing · 10/01/2008 11:45

Thank you yogimum.
Would you recommend getting a couple of different ones then, so it's not the same everytime?

yogimum · 10/01/2008 11:46

I'll have another think and come back tonight.

yogimum · 10/01/2008 11:47

I would get one to start with just to see if you are going to to it, then get one or two more so you can vary it.

yogimum · 10/01/2008 11:48

that should have read "do it"

AnnieOleTing · 10/01/2008 12:01

good plan, yogi

Bumper, do you fancy joining me in a motivation attempt?

armyofme · 10/01/2008 12:09

i have a couple that are quite good, both from the gaiam series: power yoga - total body workout (rodney yee), ashtanga yoga beginners practice (nicki doane). finding time to do them regularly is another matter though!

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 10/01/2008 13:26

Oooh annie, i sense a challenge... yes, i need some motivating. TBH i don't even need a dvd i can remember my class sequence. What do you propose?

I was lucky, I carried on my class until I got too fat to do some of the positions and my yoga teacher had just qualified as an antenatal teacher and needed a case study, so I got free private antenatal classes!

AnnieOleTing · 10/01/2008 13:40

Bumper, I've just ordered the Sun Power one that yogimum recommended.

What say we start with once a week? (Or am I being lazy?)
Just shame each other into doing it!!!

Yep sounds good! Do you want to pick a day? How are Tuesdays or Wednesdays for you?

AnnieOleTing · 10/01/2008 14:02

No good, I work those days. Thursday, Sat or Sun.

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 10/01/2008 14:13

AnnieOleTing · 10/01/2008 15:19

Cool! Anyone else want to join us?

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 13/01/2008 15:53

You yogaing annie?

I'm going to do it tonight, after dinner when DD is in bed.

AnnieOleTing · 14/01/2008 10:41

Hi Bumper!
Did ya do it, did ya, did ya?
Good on you girl.

I have failed already. I blame the postal system. My dvd hasn't arrived yet. Can I do it when it comes and then join you again on Sunday?

OP posts:
BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 14/01/2008 10:50

no, I didn't either. no excuse really, baby etc. but next week we both WILL do it. At least I have the guilt now of confessing to you that I didn't. I will try & do it in the week to make up for yesterday and we'll start afresh on sunday

WowOoo · 14/01/2008 10:54

Look and borrow from library first. I get some good ones when they're in, never got round to buying one. Can recommend a good book though....

AnnieOleTing · 14/01/2008 10:59

Ah phew Bumper! Don't feel so guilty now!!

Let's start afresh then. Sunday.

Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

AnnieOleTing · 14/01/2008 11:00
