Can you get a gum abcess in an odd place?

I don't know if there's a proper name for it, that hard bit of gum/cheek where your upper and lower back teeth meet! Actually behind your wisdom teeth, where the mandible (?) connects.

Anyway I've had a horrible pain there for a couple of days, it hurts when I swallow because my tongue pushes against it. All I can see is a dark red patch, but I also feel unwell - kept falling asleep yesterday and feel feverish today.

Can you get an abcess back there, can it make you feel ill? We're away for the weekend in our camper and I don't want to let DH down by being off colour. I've taken some paracetamol...

Yes you can. Consult a dentist. They might be able to give you antibiotics or fix it for you.

I'll consult a dentist if it's still lingering on Monday - we're camping at a showground all weekend. I do feel quite dizzy and my stomach is a bit iffy as well.

I'd say this is urgent, OP. If you're feelng ill and dizzy, you could have blood poisoning. Is there a walk-in centre you could go to nearby?

Probably, we're near a big city. But DH will roll his eyes and say I'm being dramatic, I've only had a sore mouth for a day or two and I'm not bedridden - just feel a bit out of sorts, although the dizziness is a development (everything spins for a few seconds if I move or turn my head too fast, I'm lightheaded).

But I have chronic vestibular migraine, more likely to be related to that just minus the headache. Can happen.

I suspect there might be some anxiety going on as well - a) I hate being ill away from home and b) DH has been so excited about this weekend, I don't want to spoil it.
