Bump to the head!

My ds hit his head whilst running around at nursery today, and a large lump appeared immediately. When I came to pick him up, the lump had gone down, but still seemed quite large. A few hours later, it was huge! His head looked deformed, bless him!! He said it hurt alot, but we managed to get a cold compress on it for about 40 mins, which took it down a bit. He doesnt seem at all concussed, but I cant remember which type of lump is good...soft or hard? Im assuming soft is good? His is very soft, so am thinking this is fluid or something which is protecting the injury? Any ideas? Should I have taken him to a&e??!!!

Hi. I think my advice would be go with your instincts here. If you would feel happier having him checked then go to your local minor injuries unit....or is he in bed now? If the lump hasn't gone down in the morning, maybe you could get him checked over at the surgery, quite often a practice nurse will do that for you.

Hope he is ok.

Thanks...I'll see how he is the morn...I think its my own paranoia really! Its just I remember a friends child a few years ago fracturing his scull, and she mentioned about hard and soft lumps and which one meant a fracture...I cant remember which one!
