I'm having the worst night with what I think is acid reflux

I had a stressful day yesterday. It was long too. Got in home for about 8.15 and had dinner which is usually small. Then went to the drinks cabinet to have a cocktail or two after dinner.

I was tired and start led to go to bed early for 11.30. It's now 4 O'Clock in the morning.

I had the worst few hours ever. I kept coughing and I was hit with a bad taste and burning at the back of my throat. I had a night episode about half an hour ago which had me sitting up in the bed vomiting. I had to force myself to get up then. I took a nexium tablet and I'm doing some laundry now but I am so tired. It feels like I didn't sleep at all. It also felt longer. I thought it would be 6 or 7 in the morning by now.

I think I have acid reflux. More than likely brought on my some of those fizzy cocktails I decided was a good idea. I'm not sitting in the kitchen, tired and wanting to go to bed but I am fearful of another episode.

It's awful, isn't it. When mine's bad, I have to pile the pillows up and sleep almost sitting up. You have my sympathies.

If you don’t have antacids to hand, a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in an inch of water might settle it long enough to fall asleep. Tastes disgusting but works within seconds for me.

I had this every night when pregnant… woke up choking Sad what actually worked to stop it in was getting an omeprazole prescription from the gp but I think you can buy over the counter when not pregnant so might be worth having some in if this happens to you often? Until that gaviscon swigged straight from the bottle helped a bit as did drinking a glass of milk if you can have dairy, and as a pp said, propping myself up with pillows and sleeping pretty much sitting up. Hope you manage to get some sleep!

I had this when I was pregnant and it’s horrendous op, really painful. For me the only thing which relieved it was giving birth. Later on it returned when I became overweight, although not so badly. Again it only stopped when. I lost weight. I do get it occasionally still when I’ve had alcohol and it doesn’t take much. It makes me feel so dreadful I don’t really drink any more.

I hope you feel better soon op!
