Urgent referral appointment is a phone call

I've had what I thought is IBS for ages. As it was getting worse & I couldn't find a particular food which seemed to trigger it I eventually plucked up courage to see the the GP.

Told her my symptoms - sudden urge to poo, never feeling empty, loads of wind but darent fart unless in a loo, some fecal incontinence (just often something there to wipe away) passing thin small tools many times a day, stomach cramps & bloating, & some nausea - she said I had to do blood tests & send off stool samples. Blood results not back yet as only got them done today.
GP rang last Thurs & said stool samples had blood in so she's referred me on urgent pathway & I'll get colonoscopy in next 2 weeks.
Got letter with appointment today & it's just a phone appointment next week. It says because of Covid, you may get a phone appointment first.
But I'm not sure what more they can learn over the phone.
Does anyone have experience of this? I'm wondering if the phone appointment ensures they speak to me within the 2 weeks of urgent referral.
But might it also mean I don't get a colonoscopy? Not that I particularly want one, but I need to know what's going on.

I'm sorry your going through all of this. I found out I had endometriosis last year. I have bowel bleeding during my period. She said gynaecologist would send for an appointment. About a month and a half later she called and asked me to go in. Apparently the previous gp didn't pass it on as now due to covid they are only seeing people they deem they need to see.

So it might be due to covid reasons

Hope it all works out well and are soon sorted.

I've had a number of colonoscopies. I didn't have a hospital appointment beforehand, just a call from a specialist nurse to talk through the procedure and then book it.

I think if there's blood then you should get a colonoscopy.

Wishing you all the best.

Quite normal to do a telephone assessment before a colonoscopy.
