could be a sign of B12 deficiency or something else

noddyholder · 08/01/2008 12:07

lou that is usually either a symptom of anaemia or can be a side effect of some immunology drugs. Are you on anything Or are you really tired pale etc?Hope you are ok.

lou33 · 08/01/2008 12:07

she said i was not anaemic, is that different?

im not on immunosupporessants atm, just anti inflammatories, but wasnt even on those when she took the bloods

my mum had pernicious anaemia, but the gp said my hg levels were fine, just the blood cell size was larger than it should be

I know that red blood cells are quite big when they are first made but shrink before the marrow releases them into the blood stream(I am full of this crap!) I had enlarged red cells once and it turned out one of the pills I was on was causing my marrow to release tehm too soon while still large. It righted itself though

lou33 · 08/01/2008 12:21

i havent been on any pills until after she took the blood

Could be pernicious anaemia, which is B12 deficiency. Get doctor to do serum B12 test, full blood count, folate and intrinsic factor antibodies test. If it is PA only about 50% of people have the intrinsic factor antibodies and the GPs usually don't know much about B12 deficiency. Google it for more info. If you do have it you can be treated with lozenges or injections.

Good luck, it sounds like your doctor is on the ball.

yeh my mum had it so they are going to check for that
