Hot water bottle - discoloured skin

Hey. I've been having a hot water bottle consistently for around 2 years. I have to have one, I have had major stomach problems for ages now and it takes the ache away but I think it's become more of a comfort and I can't be without it, even in the midst of summer. Thing is, it's left brown marks all over my stomach. It looks awful 😢 has anyone else experienced this and if so, is there anything I can do to get rid of them? I know not using the bottle is the obvious one but anything else? Thanks x

It’s a thing- docs call it “erythema ab igne” lit. Redness By Fire!! It will fade if you stop using it-perhaps wean yourself to using it warm rather than furnace-like tho that’s the whole point ime

My mum has this from using one on her back non stop after a fall. Not sure if it fades or not tho

I have the same thing. I have awful IBS and just can not live without a hit water bottle, even more n the summer too. I do not have the answer but my husband did worry me by saying I'm probably cooking my insides! I did ask my gastroenterologist if it's ok to have a hwb constantly clamped to my tummy but he said it was absolutely fine. Tbh, I couldn't be without one now and am happy to have markings as long as it's safe.

It’s ok, it fades, I spend most of every winter with motley hot water bottle rash somewhere on me, it fades within weeks

I have this from using a heat pad every day. I’m trying to reduce time and temperature now I know it’s a thing but I have a painful chronic condition which makes it difficult 😞

I have had this for over 10 years. It fades but mine has never gone away. I had one rather too hot bottle once and my GP said it had done permanent damage. I have used skin bleach for it but nothing really shifts the brown marks
