She is now back to her normal self after the fit.
Apart from her finger. It is very swollen. The nail is black and the whole of her finger is twice the size it should be.Do you think this is just because the nail is bruised or could she have done something to her finger?
Any advice please.

Didn't see the original thread, so don't know if you've seen a Dr (assume you have).

My friends LO LO trapped finger and got bleeding under the nail (it swelled up). Had to go to A+E and have nail punctured to allow bld to escape (feeling a bit faint now ).

Good luck.

Thanks scattyspice thats what i keep thinking.I don't think she will be to happy about that. Heres a Linkto the original thread.

Oh God, poor you (and her). I think she should see someone, tbh. Was it x rayed at the time (it may be broken)? If its really painful she'll probably agree.

madmommy6 · 06/01/2008 11:48

Funny you should ask, they didn't x-ray her finger only her chest. Not sure why, we must of told 20 different doctors while she was there. But they only looked at her finger.Think they were more worried she might fit again.

TBH I'd probably wait and see with the finger. I've blacked almost all my nails at one time or another and don't remember my fingers ever swelling, just the nails. But I don't think much gets done for a broken finger anyway - mine was just strapped to the next one with tape the time I broke it.

scattyspice · 06/01/2008 18:07

Wow GGG what do you get up to?

jalopy · 06/01/2008 19:58

She might have fractured the tip of her finger in the accident. A plastic finger splint might provide more protection while the swelling goes down.

morgansauntie · 06/01/2008 20:37

I think your daughter should get it checked out but like GGG said they can not do much for a broken finger unless the fracture is displaced but she may need the pressure releasing from under the nail. About 6 weeks ago my dad had an accident at work his left hand was crushed between 2 skips, he ended up with 17 stitches 1 fractured finger and he chipped the bone in 2 others, he did have to have his wedding ring cut off because of the swelling. He just ended up with tubi grip on his fingers to protect them while they healed. His hand looked terrible and wasn't for the faint hearted but it healed quickly and his now back at work, the only reminders he has is the scars and a wedding ring in 2 bits.

I'm glad to hear she's recovering after the epileptic fit which must have been really worrying and I wish her well with the finger, I hope you get it sorted out soon.

let me see...
trapped left hand in door aged 2 ish, lost all nails (temporarily). Right hand, 2 seperate car door incidents, plus one where I was lifting up my bed to clean under it and it was too heavy and had lots of stuff under it, and I dropped it back and trapped my hand. Had pad of middle finger on left hand stitched back on again aged about 8 after shutting it in a (sharp!) door.... broke fingers in PE at school. I could go on...

GGG i think you need to be more careful, your worse than my dd.lol

Anyway dd's finger is still swollen but she wanted to go to college today.(first day back). She has agreed to go to doc's tonight if still painful.Don't think she is looking forwards to them putting hole into her nail.lol

I think it's worth it if they do drill the nail, though it's hard to contemplate when it is soooo painful and bruised. I never had any of mine drilled, and they are pretty gross when they come away . Hope your dd feels OK again soon, she has all my sympathy.
