So fed up - awaiting tests and results and worried what might be wrong

Just over 3 weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night with stomach cramps and diarrhoea. I also felt kind of shaky but with no temp or hot/cold sensation. Since then I haven't had a solid bowel movement (it was watery for a week then started getting more solid and now is very loose). I was feeling a bit shaky after any explosive poo I had (which was once every few days) and didn't eat much the first week. Second week I felt better for a few days but was getting a few sharp pains in lower abdomen and since I have had gynae issues in the past I went to GP. I was also noticing when I went for a wee not as much was coming out. GP requested wee and poo samples and bloods which have been done this week so should be back on Monday - also have an ultrasound booked for next Friday. He checked my tummy and said it felt soft but there was a bit of tenderness there. My period was 3 weeks late so I also did a pregnancy test and that was negative. Period came on Monday and felt a bit achy and crampy and gassy during that so have had a couple of days in bed. Last night I woke at 2am with a lot of gas which was gurgling around for hours and I felt shaky and anxious so didn't sleep. At about 8.30am I had a bowel movement which was loose (not watery). Felt a bit better but the anxious unsettled feeling has come and gone all day. I spoke to GP again and he sounds at loss to what it could be so has booked an appt to go over the results next week. He said it could be something or nothing. I'm a bit of an anxious person anyway so I'm feeling worried and low and am scared to eat anything in case it gets worse.

Anyone had anything similar? Or can at least give me a hand hold through the next week or so. Just want to cry Sad

Oh poor you, it's horrible isn't it. Just to say I had something similar a while back, stomach pains that came and went, feeling bloated and generally 'off.' My bowel habits changed too which I know can be a worrying sign, like you, lots of loose poo. My GP did blood tests and a poo sample and also had a good feel around my abdomen and an internal exam. I think the next thing would have been an ultrasound but it never got that far as all the results came back normal and gradually my symptoms disappeared. I never found out what it was, a virus maybe, but it had lasted a good few weeks.

So, although your mind will be all over the place thinking of all the possible scenarios, it could well be a nasty bug that's just taking a while to clear, or something that needs treatment but isn't necessarily serious. The waiting on test results is horrid but you've done the right thing getting checked.

Thanks for replying. Yes waiting is hard but hopefully I will have answers soon. The gurgling in my lower half after eating is driving me a bit mad and I hope I'm not kept up again after only a couple of hours sleep last night. I've lost 9lbs in the last month due to the fact that I'm not eating much when symptoms kick in as I'm worried about making them worse!

I had a MRI brain study done on Tues My Dr office called wed and said my Dr was out til next Tues but wanted me to come in then. I went to my portal from the hospital and it recommended that I be seen this Fri. Then in red letters in parenthesis said ( overdue) after rec. I've seen by Fri. Do u think that means I needed to be seen quicker?

Tefair8043 · 19/03/2022 03:03

BTW this was for a second opinion following a ct scan I had done like two weeks ago that showed I had a possible hemmorhage I am anxious too because of the radiologist recommending I be seen by Fri then saying over due in red letters?

Titsywoo · 19/03/2022 09:21

@CertainUncertain

Not to be gross, but did the doctor send a poo sample to be analysed? Your symptoms sound a lot like mine when I had salmonella. It can be very hard to shake without medication. Hope you feel better soon!
Yes he did and said the results will be back on Monday. Thank you hopefully I will - slept a bit better last night although still woken up with lots of belly rumbling and wind. The anxiety is driving me mad too and making my mood very low.

Maybe call and speak to someone at the hospital?

The only thing making me think it isn't a virus is that I haven't vomited at all

Sounds like a viral thing. Just look after yourself and try not to over think things. Keep busy and distract yourself as best you can.

65honeybee · 19/03/2022 10:14

I didn't vomit when I had a similar thing, so I don't think that means it can't be a virus. It seems the docs are keen to follow up from your previous scan because they've identified a possible cause for your symptoms. I know it's worrying playing the waiting game but it's good they're following up.

65honeybee · 19/03/2022 10:15

Sorry, I got muddled with posts there, it's not you @Titsywoo who had the previous scan

AngelSings · 19/03/2022 11:46

My husband had the same (other than the late period!) and it was all down to anxiety. He had been unhappy at work for a long time and it manifested itself in those exact symptoms. They went away with anti-anxiety meds.

I was like this when I developed a sudden and severe gluten intolerance. I lost 3 stone in 3 weeks before I figured it out.

Have you noticed any pattern depending on what you eat?

I'm a bit scared to eat right now to be honest! I'm keeping it simple but wasn't paying attention to what I was eating prior to this weekend but I am keeping a diary of food and symptoms now.

I was keeping it simple, but that meant I kept having toast, or crackers, or cereal. Turned out to be the worst possible choice.
