Its probably an infection, but not able to see doctor till tuesday unless he goes emergency.
He has had decongestant tablets but is there anything else he can have/do to ease the pain?? (apart from getting bladdered)

Am used to this in my 6 yo but not adults....

sympathies to him! I had a sore ear yesterday - it seems to come hand in hand with this awful cold grrr.

Have you got any nurofen? That might help. Also I found lying with my sore ear on a hot water bottle (with warm water not v hot) helped.

get bladdered an stick a hot water bottle on his ear

He could tuck a little bit of cotton wool in which sometimes takes the pain away for some reason. Do not stuff it in as hard as you can, just a little bit to keep it warm.

Thanks all

Off to dig out the hot water bottle, find the cotton wool and pour him a Scotch!!

I would go to emergency doc - IME ear infections only get worse if left untreated. DH was struck by intense ear pain on Sunday 30 Dec, saw doc next day for anti-biotics (I nagged him to go and he did - miracle) and it's still hurting a week later - how bad would it have been without the anti-bios?

And ear pain is unbearable - go go go

SpookyMadMummy · 05/01/2008 19:22

I will get him to call NHS direct as well I think...
