Is St. John's Wart safe while breastfeeding?

The woman in the herbal shop looked in a little book and said it was fine, but I just looked at the jar and it says I need to check with a healthcare practitioner before I take it.

Anyone asked a doctor about this?

Mine said no way as these things aren't vigourously tested like 'standard' medicines are. He isn't anti homeopathic remedies he just said he would recommend that while BF or pregnant stick with standard medicines you know have been very well tested and found to be safe. I just went without for as long as poss then gave up BF and took what I needed.
