Mouth full of ulcers

wishuponastar25 · 05/03/2022 06:59

Over the last couple of days a lot of painful ulcers have come up all over my mouth. When I say a lot I mean 10-15, my mouth is covered and so soreSad

Both DD (2) and DS (8 months) have been poorly this week with a nasty cold so I've been getting through the week on very little sleep am probably also fighting the cold off. So I'm assuming that's what's caused it.

But any suggestions how to ease the pain or help them heal quicker would be much appreciated.

Oh no, it sounds like your body is really run down.
I think the most important thing is to get some vitamins in you, so a good multivitamin.
And rinse your mouth with salt water.

@wishuponastar25 I had this with Covid.

JustKeepSw1mming · 05/03/2022 07:31

Is it hand foot and mouth? My partner got this and it was awful

WeirdlyKind · 05/03/2022 07:33

Strepsils with the numbing will make life better!

PositiveLife · 05/03/2022 07:33

I had this after a sore throat. Was convinced it was covid but test was negative.
Lived on jelly and ice cream for a week and a half.

Pineapple is counterintuitive but provides relief I think? Cut sugar. Don’t use whitening toothpaste.

Thankfully I think it's unlikely to be covid as we only had it a month ago

I had wondered about this but have no spots on hands/feet and the kids haven't had any spots at all

I was going to say Hand, Foot and Mouth too. I had it as a child and I couldn’t eat for all the ulcers.

It's funny you say this as a sore throat is the only other symptom I've had!

Hmmmm Google suggests no on the pineapple so maybe disregard that!

Though I’m sure it’s a thing I was told by a nurse once in hospital…

Hugasauras · 05/03/2022 07:37

Ooh yes I had this with HFM. Awful. DD had like two tiny blisters on hands and that was it. I got a mouth full of ulcers and it was SO painful.

I used to suffer with terrible mouth ulcers. They would wipe me out. I'd have swollen glands, constant headache and obviously pain when eating. Corsadyl mouthwash worked a treat for me. It's a powerful anti bacterial mouthwash that will help clear the infection and is quite numbing too.

Hugasauras · 05/03/2022 07:41

Iglu gel is good to get some respite to be able to eat or drink something!

2022IamHavingYa · 05/03/2022 07:43

Rinse with chlorohexidine mouthwash

EllaPaella · 05/03/2022 07:43

If you haven't long had covid and now you are fighting a cold then you must be run down. That many ulcers would imply your immune system is down. I would take lots of vitamins including B vitamins. Do you have any signs of oral thrush? It might be an idea to speak to a GP if it doesn't clear up.

Arucanafeather · 05/03/2022 07:44

I’ve had a mouthful of ulcers a couple of times. If you can bear it gargling with salt water will help them heal (it will sting!) I use mouthwash just before meals so I can eat (again hurts but numbs it a little for half an hour to get food in). Like pp said when really bad all I could tolerate was ice cream and jelly. My grandparent who was a GP also suggested gargling with soluble paracetamol and then spit it out rather than swallowing so you can do it multiple times a day. Be careful doing if this is your taking other medication with paracetamol in as it’s important you don’t overdose on paracetamol. Good luck enduring it. Pharmacist might have some advice on more current treatments as it’s been at least a decade since I last had it. Maybe a numbing spray or something available.

Justkeeppedaling · 05/03/2022 07:53

Difflam mouth wash is a local anaesthetic and works really well.

Bickles · 05/03/2022 07:54

Difflam mouthwash

summerlovingvibes · 05/03/2022 07:59

Random but are you on steroid inhalers at all? Sometimes even if they don't normally cause problems, they can suddenly start to if you're run down?

JustKeepSw1mming · 05/03/2022 08:00

When my partner got hand foot mouth he had no issues elsewhere but horrendous mouth. Lasted a week. DD had 1 spot on her hand
He tried loads of things but I don't think much helped sorry

ChateauMargaux · 05/03/2022 10:01

Propolis spray . Relieved the pain and helped healing. No sls toothpaste.
