Where to buy a high dose of Vitamin D

I am a bit funny about buying anything edible and/or chemical substances online unless others can recommend a specific website. There are so many scammers and fake items out there now unfortunately, but I can't seem to find the right strength being sold in any local shops unless its Holland & Barrett (and its expensive).

I am looking for a very high dose of Vitamin D (4000-5000iu) for starters, then going on a maintenance dose of 2000iu, although I guess i could take 2x 1000 for the maintenance. Anyway, do any of you buy/recommend a higher dose one online? TIA

I bought a liquid one on Amazon, it's 2500 iu, not quite as high as you wanted, but very easy to take and scored high in reviews.

The Better You oral spray comes in a 3000iu dose and is available in most chemists, H&B etc

I take Ultra vitamin D which is pretty expensive. You can get lower doses too of course from cheaper brands then just take 3 or 4 tablets.

Do you need a high dose ? It can actually be dangerous to take too much so I’d suggest getting your levels checked and doc can prescribe accordingly rather than guessing

I was prescribed one and pharmacist said it was cheaper just to buy from them

My gp advised me to buy from amazon, so I chose the 4000 whatever it is with the best reviews.

I get this one (D3 with K2 for better absorption). It seems to have helped me and DH though I guess that could be a placebo.

Boots is generally my best option when I want totally trustworthy stuff.

Perhaps ask a pharmacist what they'd recommend?

May I add you need to take magnesium with vitamin d for better absorption as it can be bad just taking it on its own.Have a read online of the need to balance it out with magnesium.
I was prescribed very high dose vitamin d for 6 months and initially felt awful on it until a pharmacist gave some advice on the need for magnesium too, felt instantly better taking the two together.i buy mine online though Amazon or eBay.I find Lindens a good brand.

I’m sure you’re doing this on the advice of a medic - but just in case you’re not, you can get your vitamin D tested for £29, it’s a home test and very easy.

I got mine tested and then started using the Better You spray, the strongest one, 2 sprays per day and it took only about a month for my levels to come up to within the higher end of normal range and I can’t tell you how different I felt after a couple of months!

Solgar is one of the purest. It's a very good product but it's expensive.

4000IU is the max per day an adult should take. You risk compromising your liver taking any more. Ideally 4,000iu for a few weeks then drop down to half as maintenance.

Thank you all for your responses, especially those with recommended links. I didn't realise about taking magnesium too as the gp has never suggested it despite prescribing vit d tablets three seperate times

For those asking why I am not going via my gp.

1. takes over an hour to get through to receptionist to be told no apps except for emergencies (was bad before covid, now even worse)
2. I have had same symptoms three times, all helped with high vit d dose for a couple of months. Figured it best to try before gp contact. The first time I was gp tested i was immediately sent for an urgent hospital appointment for an injection it was that low. I want to prevent that happening by taking tablets now.
