CHICKEN POX for the second time

My baby daughter is nearly 11 mos old and has chicken pox again. She had them when she was about 7 mos old. On Tuesday I noticed plukey looking spots on her temple and scalp and then some on her neck, thought it was just heat spots????? cos she has had the pox. But yesterday she had loads on her trunk and bottom, Today she is covered apart from her hands and feet. She has dozens on her head and trunk. The ones on her scalp have crusted over so she must have had them a few days. She has already been in contact with a lot of kids, babies and pregnant women but I'm keeping her at home now. Apart from being tired and runny nosed she is okay and quite cheery.

Has anyone elses kids had them twice and within a short space of time> And should I be worried?

I can only speak from personal experience. I have had it three times. My dr said that if you have it before you are 1 you don't get any immunity. Unfortunately, I had it at 6 months, then 15, then 28. It seems to have stopped now as I was exposed to it not long ago and didn't get it. Good luck!

My dd nearly 3 has just been diagnosed again. She had them at 18 months and was really quite poorly. This time there aren't as many spots and she is pretty well in herself other than cold and the itchiness! Doctos said there are other strains of the chicken pox family and they can therefore get the virus more than once although in different forms. He gave her piriton to help with itching.

I too have had it twice - but thankfully when my dc had it I didnt get catch it.

I think if you have it fairly mildly you can catch it again, and the younger you are the first time the more likely you are to get it again. But I could be wrong about that! But I certainly had it as a baby (I have a scar on my face from it) and then again when I was 15 when I had it REALLY badly

That's interesting about getting them before 1 and not having any immunity Turtle23.

I've had it twice too.

Not sure about the age explanation but I do know that if the first time is a mild reaction you can get it again and the second time around is likely to be quite a big reaction as your immune system has already been exposed to the virus.

I've had them four times - very bad each time. DD1 had them twice and DD2 had them three times. I wouldn't be worried about it.
